Are StackHash errors caused by overclocking?

Featured Replies

Do StackHash errors only occur on machines with overclocked CPUs?  Are they, in fact, hardware related at all?

I'm still getting them but I've ordered two memory sticks total 8GB to replace the existing two sticks total 4GB. I bet it doesn't cure the problem but the extra memory won't hurt.

I've been Googling these errors and nobody seems to know what really causes them and as for anyone coming up with a fix - well forget it!

I cannot understand how this can suddenly start on a machine where nothing is changed, apart from Windows up dates and which has been running FSX perfectly for over two months and this only happens when running FSX.

Would doing a complete Windows and FSX uninstall/re-install work?

Sorry for the rant but it is so frustrating!

No.  I was able to get rid of the BEX/StackHash error reinstalling Windows/FSX once but the same crash came back as I have two monitors.  As I have mentioned before, if I close FSX in Full Screen mode, I'll get the crash when I shutdown FSX.  If I close FSX in Windowed Mode, no crash when I shutdown.  But it did not happen when I first installed FSX as I was able to close FSX in Full Screen mode a couple of times w/o a crash but eventually the BEX/StackHash error started showing up again unless I closed FSX in Windowed Mode.  The best explanation I could find in laymen's terms is here - http://tdistler.com/2009/04/10/stackhash-and-application-crashes-on-windows.  One AVSIM member posted the following fix for BEX/StackHash errors but it did not work for me and many others - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/403927-hooray-instructions-to-get-no-more-dep-induced-bev-or-stack-errorscrashes/.  Fortunately I do not get them during a flight and only when I shutdown FSX (unless I shutdown in Windowed Mode).

Best regards,

Jim
