Coolsky DC-9 Flap warning sound

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to disable the really loud warning sound that goes off as soon as you take off or extend flaps without your gear down?  Its not the gear warning sound.  Its a different really loud lower pitched bell.

There are a number of exciting warning sounds on this plane, not sure which one you mean?  I still need to master all the documentation details, but I know if I extend flaps too far even with gear down on landing, I get a warning.

I always take off with flaps extended at least one notch and have never had any warnings go off there.

Keep an eye on your altitude warning setting, too; that amused me initially as I was hunting for how the HECK to turn that warning off -- until I realized oh yes, I'd forgotten to set the altitude warning.

The Schematics interface is a brilliant idea, btw, and totally interactive; it really gives you an understanding of the flows in the Electrical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems, so your understanding of what to flip when and why is not just procedural but conceptual, HUGE win for me there.

Once I got past the anxiety/excitement of just wanting to get the plane into the air as soon as I could, regardless of systems (I force myself to go from Cold & Dark despite this, which is all the more challenging the first few times around.....), I've actually enjoyed time spent on the ground clicking around on everything in the cockpit, including all the warning and test buttons, just to familiarize myself with where they are and what they do.

It might seem like insanity to some, but really getting into the pre-flight checklist, with as much detail as this plane provides (you can even pull circuit breakers, with effect!), and skipping even thinking about getting to pushback, can be a lot of fun in itself.

Spend more time on the ground familiarizing yourself with the cockpit.  The UHDT textures from McPhat Studios (who's also done work for PMDG, btw) are not to be missed, install their UHDT VC pack, turn bump-mapping on in settings and you'll forget about even wanting to get into the air. :)

The one anomaly I haven't figured out yet is that sometimes the battery? generator? sound stays on, even with battery switch turned off -- is it the generators?  I'm not going to assume it's a bug at this point.  I know if I hit Cold & Dark after loading the aircraft, everything shuts off, but the moment I go to the Ground Options menu to hook up the GPU (click on it and it turns green), even with the battery off, a rather persistent whine (not the sound of FSX customers, to be clear......) initiates, which is similar to the one you get when turning the Battery switch on (prior to alternator or avionics) on most FSX aircraft, except it's a bit louder.  I wish I could quiet it down but maybe this is realistic.

Figuring out and memorizing what all the audio cues in the cockpit represent is really an enjoyable exercise; take your time with it.

all warning sounds are linked to something, just auto-configure   the plane for climbout after T/O. I love this payware, it's amazing!

Even better than all my fsx/xp10 payware, including my NGX and the upcoming 777  :p0816:

I don't want to offend any of the other great developers, but seriously, yes, this is an absolutely amazing aircraft. If you like tube liners at all it's a must-have. The attention to detail all around is phenomenal. And I really like flying it with or without the old-style autopilot, depending on flight conditions.

I still have to perfect my landing approach so all the warning systems don't freak out at the last minute and scare the passengers, but I've landed the plane on NDB runways in the Australian outback with only 5,000 feet to stop and an approach speed of 140 knots (I can probably go slower, but haven't gotten the perfect combination of thrust, flaps, speed brake and bank angle to do so yet; so I prescribe anti-anxiety meds for my passengers before every flight...).

There's joy in getting a full Dep/Ar/Airways setup in an FMC programmed successfully and then going for a cup o' java in-flight, but I do find my white-knuckle approaches far more exciting, if closer to the edge of catastrophe.... ;)

Try flying out of KJAC in a thunderstorm in this plane sometime; it is memorable.

Coolsky did an outstanding job on their Super 80 (for FS9 "and" FSX) DC-9-81 (MD81).

I just got it recently ... I have truly enjoyed every minute ... reading (a lot of this) and doing (as I learn)..

I also just purchased their Super DC-9 Classic DC 9-30 (FSX only)  ..... same thing ... really outstanding.

Down the road I may get their Super 80 Pro (glass cockpit) also ...!

They have both the Super80 and Super80 Pro together as a DVD discounted package at Flight1; if that could be offered as a digital download instead, I'd jump.

I know what you mean about the "boxed" vs download. It does save a bit.

I wanted the Super80 (FS9 and FSX) so I ended up getting them one at a time.

In the end it will all be about $20 more for me to get them one at a time ... but all vis download.

Let us know what you think; I'd be happy to pick up both separately online if they're as consistently good as the DC-9.

These were the aircraft I grew up with, when flying commercial was exciting and fun, not the cattle-car experience it is now.

I figured out the problem.  There was a sound in the main fsx sound folder that somehow got linked to the DC-9.  It was not a DC-9 sound file so I have no idea where it came from or why I have only heard it on the DC-9.

The DC-9 is a far better simulation than the super80 series from Coolsky.  The Super 80 is really nice but has a little buggyness in the FMS.  I find no problems or complaints at all about the DC-9 now that I found the sound file that was troubling and in fact had nothing to do with the DC-9 after all.
