August 14, 201312 yr Hi, is it possible to edit the AdvDisp, mine is currently semi-transparent with red text. I would like to reduce the transparency & maybe change the text colour and/or size to increase legibility. Thanks for any help, Keith

August 14, 201312 yr Author Pete, thanks very much, I never knew about that, it's much clearer now. (I don't suppose it's possible to edit the font size is it?) In any case, thank you, the undocked window is a big improvement. Keith
August 14, 201312 yr Commercial Member (I don't suppose it's possible to edit the font size is it?) Not with the FS windows, no. ShowText lets you choose fonts and sizes though, and colours too I think. Pete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. August 15, 201312 yr If all you wish to do is text color for the built-in Window that fsuipc generates you can opt for white text instead of red. This is not advdisplay.dll (and should not be active in your modules folder) but the built in one. This remains transparent in your defined windows system colors AFAIK but the white text clearly shows. Put this line in your fsuipc [General] section or set it in your fsuipc general tab options: WhiteMessages=Yes
August 15, 201312 yr Author Thanks to both of you. Forgive my ignorance but where do I find ShowText? Do I need to purchase FSUIPC to use it? I have a lot to learn with this software. Before this I was happy to go direct from A to B as instructed by the default ATC, & enjoy some scenery. Now this is forcing me to learn more, both about navigation and about getting everything running together again, what with MCE, FSCaptain, AI Smooth, GSX, DBS GPS, UT2, and a few more I'm sure I've missed out; I bet MS never envisaged so much extra life in its sim. Anyway, after numerous 'mess-around' taxis & take-offs, I finally took off from Las Vegas with RC4, MCE for comm with ATC (no co-pilot yet, I still can't cope with it all as I am enjoying the extra chatter as well), and the immersion really has increased considerably. The sound fills the headset and it feels like being in a real cockpit. It made me smile when I took off, set my heading, and the controller immediately called out 'American 350 what are you doing, stop turning immediately & fly runway heading'. Excellent.
August 15, 201312 yr Commercial Member Forgive my ignorance but where do I find ShowText? Do I need to purchase FSUIPC to use it? In the Download Links subforum on the FSUIPC support Forum. And no, no purchase is necessary. Pete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. GPU: RTX 24Gb Titan 2 x 2160p projectors at 25Hz onto 200 FOV curved screen
August 15, 201312 yr Anton: You mentioned UT2. If you are referring to Ultimate Traffic II for FSX then be sure you go into its options and set its AI spawning range to maximum. UT2 spawns AI on the fly at about 20nm from your aircraft by default. RC needs the maximum range to properly assign your runways with regard to the AI patterns and you also need the extra range for AI to stabilize. RC uses the AI pattern as first priority for runway assignments to avoid conflict.
August 16, 201312 yr Author Thanks Ronzie, I will amend the settings. I had noticed a change in the AI aircraft but had not solved it yet, so that is likely to be a part of the reason (AI Smooth was showing that 0 aircraft are being monitored, soon after I take off, which was not happening before). Anyway, I've been making good progress, but have hit a big stumbling block. I fire up FSX & get to the gate, then start ShowText, MultiCrew Experience & RC4. All works very well to start - clearance, pushback, taxi (in fact the voice recognition seems even better than with the default ATC). But then as I am taxiing, FSX freezes. It does not crash. If I switch off MCE, everything frees up and I can continue taxiing. I then restart MCE and it works again for a few minutes, when it happens again. Memory issue? So far I have tried turning off chatter (both) in C4, and all MCE features except comms to ATC, hoping it would free up memory, but it is still happening. I'm disappointed, as I really want my MCE, and RC4 is also looking like a favourite, so I don't know how I'll choose between them if I have to. I have AMD Phenom ii 960t 3ghz, 8GB RAM, HD7950 Flex 3GB. It's not the fastest RAM, so may be a slight bottleneck, but I don't believe it's enough to cause this. Have you seen this scenario before? I will now test MCE alone, then RC4 alone, then turn off UT traffic, try an airport other than Vegas which has FSDT scenery, etc, till I hopefully isolate what is happening.
August 16, 201312 yr I think it is MCE that has a setting that needs to be made in order not to interfere with RC. Check their support forums and search this forum. AI Smooth will show monitoring zero AI until FS is running with a loaded flight and remember it takes a while for AI to show up. At first they will arrive in a clump as they catch up with their schedule. With UT2 you will not hear the AI radio call by airline/flight number but by tail number until departing AI start taxiing to their runway. Your PC should be OK as you describe.
August 16, 201312 yr Author Thanks again Ronzie, I had the correct settings in MCE but I don't know what was wrong. I ended up uninstalling all addons back to a clean FSX. Then I added MCE and RC4, this time without a hitch, and I am currently halfway between Vegas and KSFO, and all is going great! I will add UT2 back in (and possibly FS Captain) in the next day or so.Default AI are appearing & being monitored fine in AISmooth, and it is brilliant. Just one more question (for now ) - is it possible to accelerate time mid - flight (wash my mouth out for asking that). If I do try and select 4x, it just switches straight back to normal time. Thanks again for all your help, Keith
August 16, 201312 yr I do not know why it is switching back unless you have an add-on that is preventing that or a key conflict. RC will not work well over 2X in cruise and for departure and arrival 1X max. If you use basically a default or simple aircraft that uses an FS standard auto-pilot RC's co-pilot can fly it between departure and cruise. In combination with that RC has a feature that will pause your flight at 200 nm out from destination and wait for you to take control. Check the manual. I am not sure what FS Captain is but it just sounds like it might be a conflict. Regarding AI Pete has a free application that will run in its own window that will display AI status such as what phase, distance to destination, and runway to be assigned. You can use this to see how UT2 operates. If you have a second monitor you can display it there. Get Traffic Look from: http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66136-useful-additional-programs/ That is also where you'll find the latest version of makerwys.exe.
August 16, 201312 yr Author Yes , I think you are right about the key conflict, I still have one or two to resolve. I will get to the cause of each of them eventually, but of course I can use the co-pilot in mid flight & the pause function, thanks - I am now reading the manual. I will definitely check out Traffic Look as well, once again all your help is appreciated.
