August 22, 201312 yr Hey having issues with the LOG book running FS for ever, I had a system crash reinstalled everything. Windows 7 64 bit, which I have my sim on befor the crash. Now when I have LOG flight time checked at the ens of the flight after finished and exiting FS it CTD. I noticed that log book is opened with NOTEPAD. I'd sure like to get back theres sevral years of LOG and 3800 hours. Any ideas?
August 22, 201312 yr have you backed up your log book somehow? Pioneers of Virtual FlightGear Down Please Retrospective Civil Aviation
August 22, 201312 yr Hi. If your logbook file is still there, you can rename it (in order to back it up) and let FS start a new one. If that goes ok then the problem is likely to be with the original log file rather than with FS: it may be missing header data or have become otherwise corrupt or even have a dodgy read-only flag. I suggest this because if FS can't find a logbook it just creates a new one. If you make a backup copy, or rename it, you could then change the suffix of the archived log to .csv (or even copy the text and paste into a spreadsheet) and open it in Excel or Open Office or some such, for manipulapting your records. I archive my logbook at the end of every year just because it appeals to my sense of neatness. See how starting a new log goes, and work on from there. Cheers, D
August 22, 201312 yr Any ideas? As well as the good advice everyone has already shared, please check in your FS9.cfg text file in the [MISC] section and make sure the entry; LOG_FILE=LOGBOOK ( or whatever you've named yours ) reads correctly. I recall some years ago that I had issues where the LOG_FILE= entry became garbled with some strange symbols. Correcting that manually solved my issues. Simply copy and paste the name of your log file to the LOG_FILE= line. I also will assume that with W7 you have all the correct permissions and security clearance so that the log can update correctly without throwing a wrench into the system? Regards Mel
August 22, 201312 yr Author Thanks for your help and I'll look into it and report back! This is a direct copy from the FS9.cfg LOG_FILE=FS9 Logbook
August 22, 201312 yr Author Hmm I went in a removed the Logbook file mine is located in the Documents folder under C:\users\Scot\My Documents\Flight Simulator Files. I removed it and blanked out the CFG file and started FS and selected the Logbook under menu bar and CTD Just ran more test I'm convinced its in the FS error its self....Is there away to fix it with out uninstalling the FS it takes me over 2 weeks to get everything back in. I try the disc and there is no run repair setup. If not I'll just make an Excel spread sheet.
August 26, 201312 yr Author Update: The FS creates a new Logbook file, when finished with the flight FS9 CTD with and error so I unchecked the LOG FLIGHT time and all works good, I guess I'll just keep my time myself.
