August 22, 201312 yr Well after some thought, I finally decided to move to Windows 8 on my main gaming rig. Im really used to windows 8 so Im passed the whole learning curve thing. So now I have a clean install of the OS plus some freeware utilities and latest driver (non-beta) for my gtx680. I have a 240GB SSD Drive for fsx which I have not installed yet. In my previous installation I had fsx installed in e:/Flight Simulator/FSX, I had Opus in E:/Flight simulator/opus, and pro atc x in e:/flightsimulator/atc pro x. same goes for Radar contact and some other addons that I have. Is this the best folder structure? This hard drive is specific for FSX and nothing else. After I installed FTX global, my frames dropped to half in most areas. Should I install this addon first or last? I have UTX NA, UTX Europe landclass, most FSDT airports, Aerosoft Antartica, LatinVFR KMIA, KDCA, airports, Opus for weather, The most detailed guide I found was NICKN but was dated back in 2009 or 2010 which I thought was little bit dated. Can someone shed some light on all this? I will also be following Avsim guide for tweaking the fsx.cfg and nvidia inspector and fsx settings. I am not making the move to DX 10 till after the retail patch comes out. Thank you for any tips and tricks! Kacper Nowotynski
August 22, 201312 yr The most detailed guide I found was NICKN but was dated back in 2009 or 2010 which I thought was little bit dated. Nick constantly keeps this up-to-date - http://www.simforums.com/forums/drivers-nv-inspector-fsxcfg-complete-guide_topic36586.html. I have my fsx installed in the default folders and have never had any issues with FSX. You might check out the PMDG guide for installing FSX here - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx. I really don't think it makes much difference where and how it is installed. If you go and check out the CTD Forum here at AVSIM you will see that many individuals with CTD's had their fsx installed in the non-default folder but there were many CTD's in the default folder too. This is proven by looking at the AppCrashView report submitted by the OP for each CTD. It shows where FSX was installed and whether or not the individual had that Uiautomationcore.dll in the main fsx folder. Most did. My understanding is that FTX Global replaces your default textures (so does programs like GEX). So you will have to take that into consideration. You spent a lot of money, you might as well install them whether they are frame-rate friendly or not. I have my FSX installed in the default folder on the same SSD as my Windows installation. All my addons (or most of them) are located on HDD's. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! August 22, 201312 yr Author Thank you, yeah I did a search for "fsx addon installation order", maybe i should of worded it differently. Looks like I got my evening and night planned out! Kacper Nowotynski
August 22, 201312 yr Looks like I got my evening and night planned out! Actually take your time. Make sure you start up fsx and at least run it once when you install a new addon. I just built a new system and just finishing with most of the reinstalls of my addons. Some aircraft made it back into my hangar, some did not. August 22, 201312 yr Author yeah I am in process of reading NIckN's Bible.. Lots of reading lol, not many things I like to read either. At least hes straight to the point. I doubt I will see a mention of FTX global in there either lol Kacper Nowotynski
August 23, 201312 yr After I installed FTX global, my frames dropped to half in most areas. Have any others reported this? I am able to run FTX PNW quite well so I am hoping FTXG will be similar or maybe even a bit easier to process.
