November 6, 200421 yr Where, in the FS9.cfg file is 'PanelAsTexture=1" shown? I don't see that line anywhere in my cfg file. Thanks, Howard Jetline Systems: Intel 8th Gen Core i7 8700K (4.8GHz Overclock); GTX 1080 Ti; LG Curved UltraWide 3440x1440 Monitor .
November 6, 200421 yr It isn't. You have to put it there, but don't if you have an Nvidia card.Allcott
November 6, 200421 yr hmm, I've got an Nvidia card and find that Panelastexture = 1 gives me a bit clearer 2D panels with little or no performance cost.
November 6, 200421 yr "but don't if you have an Nvidia card."Not sure I agree with this. PanelAsTexture is completely system dependent. It has never done anything for me (3 different ATI cards, one nVidia, and 2 different motherboards), but for some it makes a big difference. It's one of those settings that each simmer should test and decide.Cheers,Greg
November 6, 200421 yr I have an ATI 9800. What section does that line go into? Thanks, Howard Jetline Systems: Intel 8th Gen Core i7 8700K (4.8GHz Overclock); GTX 1080 Ti; LG Curved UltraWide 3440x1440 Monitor .

November 7, 200421 yr Hi y'allThis is not clear to me.I have a Nvidia card (which the team behind 'Jurassic Park' are considering to star in their next movie). Am I better off to have:1. PanelAsTexture=02. PanelAsTexture=13. no line entry at all? Thanks. Help an idiot and feel better about yourself.Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontP.S. When it comes to FPS vs. clarity of VC, frame rates wins. So consider the question above on that basis, thanks.P.P.S. I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.http://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
November 7, 200421 yr Mark,It won't damage anything and you can always revert back to no entry. Just try it and see if your panel in 2D looks clearer. Here's mine:[DISPLAY.Device.RADEON 9700 PRO.0]Mode=1024x768x32TriLinear=1PanelAsTexture=0
November 7, 200421 yr This is how I have it now ... i.e. to '0'. So just leave things?[ DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 100/200.0 ]Mode=1024x768x32TextureAGP=0[ DISPLAY ]UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=20TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=200PanelAsTexture=0Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontP.S. Told you my card was old. Archaeologists keep phoning.http://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
November 7, 200421 yr Nobody can really say what you should do Mark. All you can do is try all three possible settings and see which one works best for you. You can't do permanent damage by trying any of the three options. If one doesn't work, just change back to the one that did...oh, btw, I think the panel as texture line should actually be immediately after the TextureAGP line there in yr config. Although now that I think of it if you use "textureAGP=0", panel as texture might not have any effect anyway. Or does FS9 even recognize the TextureAGP=0 parameter at all??? ... lol, now I've confused myself...
November 7, 200421 yr Here is a link to another post on the message boards that explains more about the PanelAsTexture functionality. Looks like it is best to always have it set to 1. Even with an Nvidia card. By the way, I have a Geforce 6800 and get much better framerates with it set to 1. Also looks nicer to me.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=220566&page=2
November 7, 200421 yr Right-on! Why offload something the display adapter can do to the CPU? My guess is, the 'hidden' PAT-mention will be set to 1 by default. Adding the line in the fs9.cfg is thus perhaps just making sure FS sets the option properly? @ Mark, you've got 'it' in the wrong section. It should be under the 'Display.device' section. Good luck and kind regards Jaap
November 7, 200421 yr <<<<under the 'Display.device' section.>>>>> Hmmm ... FS did that, not me. Ah well, will try changing it about a bit for the heck of it. Thanks, all.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
November 7, 200421 yr Have a new NVidia 6800GT Overclocked (out of box that way), and adding the line PanelAsTexure=1 worked well for me. Saw a distinct sharpness in 2D panel and I swear my frames were up a bit. Flew in some overcast and cloudy weather from Ontario (CA) to San Diego, and then on to Las Vegas. Pretty smooth experience.
