Convert Saitek Throttle Quadrant to Hall Effect Sensors?

Featured Replies

I have three of the Saitek throttle quadrants. One of them has started getting jittery and throwing signal spikes. I guess the pots are finally going south after more than a thousand hours of use.

My question is has anyone converted their Saitek throttle quadrant from pots to hall effect sensors?

If so, I would really like to know what you used and perhaps get some pictures of the conversion.

Well, several views, but no comments. So, I am guessing very few have attempted to convert the Saitek stuff to hall effect sensors.

Fine. I will post my attempt to do this conversion as I work through it. With the number of people having quality issues with several manufacturer's controllers (PFC, Saitek, etc.) and the price for these controllers, it would seem reasonable to spend a little time and very little money upgrading them rather than replacing them after they fail.

My plan is to use Honeywell S495 hall effect sensors and 1/4 X 1/4 rare earth magnets to upgrade the Saitek throttle quadrant. I don't know if I will need to change out the controller board. If I do, I plan to use the Super Rotary Encoder board from DecktopAviator.

I've not changed the pots for Hall Effect sensors but I have stripped them down and cleaned the pots, its relatively easy, its mostly just time consuming, two quads took me about 2 hours to do in total. The thing works like new now and I'm sure they will be good for at least another 3 years use, the pot sliders looked brand new after cleaning with a contact cleaner. You can find a few videos on Youtube showing you hows its done.

Cheers, Andy.

have you tried Google,I found a number of how to do this etc for my Saitek x 52 pro  ,including changing the sensors ,i think to hall effect type ,so i would imagine some one out there has had a go

Took the throttle quads apart last night and cleaned them. Now they work as new. Took some measurements to allow start of the design phase of the conversion. Yes, there are several youtube and other such examples on line concerning conversion to hall effect sensors. I was hoping someone had done the Saitek throttles specifically so I could see their method and learn from their experiences.

Anyway, I'll post progess.
