August 31, 201312 yr With (delayed) release only days away it might be curious that a confirmed FS9 Captain is raising this topic. However I am really interested in whether Gerald has the 'inside line' and will cover the Triple 7 before the competition or whether it's a case of awaiting the SDK (if PMDG deicide to issue one?)
September 1, 201312 yr Commercial Member With (delayed) release only days away it might be curious that a confirmed FS9 Captain is raising this topic. However I am really interested in whether Gerald has the 'inside line' and will cover the Triple 7 before the competition or whether it's a case of awaiting the SDK (if PMDG deicide to issue one?) Although we can interface just about any third party aircraft out there with or without SDK, for the PMDG 777 we will wait for the SDK because PMDG wants it that way. Based on the previous NGX SDK, PMDG does all the work for you and provides a copy and paste source code so that you have very little to do, except plug-in the audio. We expect the 777 to be the same. Therefore, it will be fully supported in excruciating detail. But being there first is not the most important thing. Getting it right IS. We would never run a speech engine inside the simulator process. Doing that is asking for trouble. It's bad enough that aircraft, scenery, weather and traffic add-ons have to fight it over the scarce resources in terms of virtual addres space 4 GB limit of a 32 bit process. Add the speech engine with its massive memory footprint and you are only one turn away to the wrong (heavy) scenery for the OOM condition to bring your flight to a halt. I'm sure users will want voice control for the fun of it, and not being scared to death of saying something unexpected, or do something in the wrong order that would eventually bring the simulator down. Meanwhile, we saved our resources for other aircraft that no other voice control product can interface, I mean CoolSky MD80, CS777, Milviz 732, CS727..........I let you guess where it ends...... September 3, 201312 yr Author Thank you Gerald for a most generous and informative reply. I was once a user of the competitors products but ever since discovering your masterworks, MCE, I have not been tempted to open them at all. Chalk and cheese. Best investment I've made in flight sim.
