Project Open Sky Weights, Payload and Fuel

Featured Replies

With the POSKY a/c I got, they have no payload and full fuel yet they are over the max gross limit! They are not balanced either and cannot balance them. Can anyone 'fill me in' on this please?(Maybe I'd better buy some PMDG stuff...)Danielwww.danielmcaloon.tk

"(Maybe I'd better buy some PMDG stuff...)"Remember, Project Opensky is freeware--please refrain from including comments like this when raising issues out of respect for all of us who write freeware. PMDG is great, but POSky is also great considering the price....Your questions about FDE's may be more quickly answered in the A/C design forum. FDE design doesn't require anything more than a few hours' study to start--and with that alone you can fix most of the issues you perceive as problems. It's better and less agressive than opening threads raising issues you have with Meljet, or POSky, or any other FDE offered up by freeware teams.Regards,John

I beleive that the 2002 Posky planes don't work in the load manager. Make sure you get the newest versions of the planes. Next, you will need to read the documentation that came with the aircraft. You will see that with full fuel and payload that you are overweight. Only take the fuel you need to get to your destination.

You have taken my comment out of context John. I am not politically correct, sorry. I think the POSKY freeware is the best FDe which romps over the MS default a/c!I was meaning that you can't get anything for free......that is the best. I can't imagine a team apart from the love of it doing something for free. There are many freeware devs here and I congratulate them! You are all awesome. Just I want to set up the sim so I'll get the most realistic experience. The fact I have downloaded POSKY and Meljet (Meljet is brilliant, but not in the FDe department) and other freeware and sceneries at least has shown my reception to the freeware community. If this isn't respect then I think you are being a little touchy. Thanks for all your halp anyhow and I mean no offense although it may sound a little rough at times!Keep up the great work! (not everybofy is perfect in every ways, as a group we can stregthen these imperfections and make solid work)

Daniel:I agree that the weight and balance, and fuel loads may be corrupt in the aircraft.cfg file for some of these birds. I edit most of my planes as per specs from the manufacturer's web sites, or generic sites such as the following:http://flyaow.com/planes.htmhttp://www.bh.com/companions/034074152X/ap...a-a/default.htmhttp://www.airliners.net/info/I do not have the PMDG 737 series. I am sure they are great "stuff" but @ $70.00 to $80.00 there are just too many other great offerings in combination for that amount of $$$ IMHO (Including from PMDG). Therefore, I cannot comment on their 737 specs. At any rate, do not come to the conclusion that weight and balance or fuel load will be on spec for all buyouts either. You may have some editing to do with them as well if you want to meet the real world manufacturer's specifications.Happy Flying and good luck:RTH

Daniel,If you are flying their 757 model, I think they have updates on their site. I am at work so I will go home and look at my POSKY 757 and get back to you if it is corrected in the updates.

RTH or Rodges? How can I edit these? Is it difficult? Thanks for your reply! Very informative!RegardsDanielwww.danielmcaloon.tk

Thanks CHY.POSKY I have found have the most realistic FDe I have flight tested.Daniel

FDE = (I think) Flight Dynamics Engineering or Envelope. The .air file and aircraft.cfg contain aerodynamic info that affects the flying state of the model for various airspeed, surface control setting, power and prop settings, aircraft - cargo, model, fuel, pax - weights and positions around the reference center of gravity of the model. Think of all these as defining the effects of thrust, gravity, drag, and lift forces the result in aircraft attitude and speed (or not) and how stable the aircraft is for each situation. In these files you'll notice settings for flap and flap position on the wing, wing area, spoiler area, engine specifics, moments-of-inertia and on-and-on.

ronzie:Thank u :) Wow..so thats where everything governing how the plane behaves is held? Cool!

Daniel,I did look at the "load" window on my initial flight from Heathrow to Boston yesterday. At 100% payload and fuel, my 757-200 was about 3500 lbs over weight. So I just adjusted the fuel down to 90%... landed at Logan with about 18% fuel left.Is that what you want? The updates were from Aug 04, I think. Here is the link if you want.http://forum.projectopensky.com/index.php?showtopic=3005

Daniel:First of all, ALWAYS make a backup copy of any file or folder you are going to work with in any way. In fact, immediately after installation of FS9, I do this with all critical files and folders, rename them including "Original Default" in their text title etc. If things turn to something that smells bad, you can always simply go back to the originals that way. If needed, you can then delete the changed file, and then revise your backup copy back to the original title and you are back in business (Although I would still retain a copy of my backup until you see everything is right again).Simply double click on your aircraft.cfg (AFTER MAKING THE BACKUP COPY) and then edit any items in question under weight and balance, fuel, thrust scaler, and fuel scaler and anything else to your pleasure. I usually also edit the text under description as applicable too so that the aircraft selection text will display whatever changes I have made to the data.Hope this helps.RTH
