RC Version 4.4 - Any Chance?

Featured Replies

Based on the latest information, this topic was bound to come up...so I thought I'd go ahead and get it started  .

Let me start by saying I completely understand JD's decision to shelve RC5 and respect his devotion to his family... got to keep the priorities straight ! Besides, after all these years, RC is still the best ATC program available for FS... especially at simulating real world procedures.

With that said, there are a few issues with RC that I believe could be fixed with very little time and effort involved. If there is any chance of a maintenance update (it has been 6 years after all), here's my very short wishlist:

1. Give us a little more time (maybe 30 secs... or make it configurable) to acknowledge and perform frequency changes. This would be a tremendous benefit for MCE users especially.

2. Give us a little more time to initiate heading or altitude changes before getting nagged.

3. Change the "Taxi into Position and Hold" phraseology to "Line Up and Wait". I know there is already a workaround; but why not make the default version use the updated procedures?

That's all. I really don't want much.

MadDog,

I have already asked JD if he will fix a couple of things and the answer was no. We just have to accept that I'm afraid. Sorry. :(

That is unfortunate... these types of code changes would be extremely simple... I guess I've gotten spoiled by the responsiveness of some of the more recent developers. While I don't completely understand the mentality; I guess I'll have to accept it too.

I am a long time RC user but am starting to look at other ATC apps that are being currently developed.

I suppose if you heart isn't in it then it's difficult to raise the enthusiasm. There is also the issue of tweaking code you haven't touched in years. It will be difficult to get back into the flow and then there is always the chance you break something that previously worked.

All we can hope for is that he has a change of heart before we all get too old.

I'm sure you're not alone but whether they are as good is something only each of us can decide. If you're referring to the one I think you are then it certainly is a rival but was released too early in my opinion. But nothing stays the same for ever.
