November 15, 200421 yr Hi guys...I know this topic has been covered before. But now that I am seriously considering about it, I still would like to ask for some opinions of the current users.I am not big on mesh at all. I buy addon aircrafts like crazy and fly them over defaul terrian...thinking it already looks good enough. But Fsglobal looks like a very nice step up from what FS9 has to offer. I know there are better mesh out there. But this one covers the whole world for $50.00.Are the visual changes significant? Performance hit, anyone?Oh, and also, anyone is using it with Myworld2004 landclass? Is that a winner's combination or not?My system: AMD 2400+, 768MB, Gforce 5900. Thank you for your input in advance.Jason Zhang JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI

November 16, 200421 yr i asked the same question mate, and got the same response.Doesnt sound particularly good!CheersDan
November 16, 200421 yr Well as you said, the topic has been covered before. If the other threads have not convinced you one way or the other try this:Go to the library and download some free 76M mesh for an area you know. Install the mesh and observe the before and after. You then can make up your own mind.Since terrain mesh is not that high on your list I would buy it for the convenience it gives of not having to search high & low d/l all the mesh.
November 16, 200421 yr I bought it...for a change. Reviews and forums plus screenshots...I don't think this product can go wrong.Thank you guys!Jason Zhang JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI
November 16, 200421 yr What can I say here.... I've bought it and find it's really good product. Cheap, mesh of good quality, more detailed terrain.... IMHO the best is to merge it with FScene2004. Excellent outstanding result etc.. =).PS : Im not endorsed by either FSGLOBAL or FSCENE !!!!! -Jerome "In thrust we trust"
November 16, 200421 yr Thanks for the recommandation...FScene2004 is expensive though. Costs over 80 euros to cover a continent in four seasons.SFGLOBAL recommands MyWorld2004 as landclass to go along. I might try that out as a second step. I don't know if MyWorld2004 brings performance hits or not. I am really sensitive to the smoothness of my sim.best,Jason Zhang JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI
November 17, 200421 yr Hi Jason,As a round-the-world flyer, I bought FS Global 2005 right after it was issued. I tried beforehand to build my own mesh, using FSDEM and SRTM data and afterwards correcting the raw data. This took me an enormous amount of time and was detrimental to my basic flying activity. The main reason for buying FS Global 2005 was that it covered the whole world and that I could use this mesh without downloading and installing a lot of files. A few days afterwards, I also bought My World Landclass to better fit the terrain textures with the more detailed mesh.Up to now, I've flown approximately 20 hours from Oman to Thailand, and I'm now flying to Nothern Ural through Tibet and Mongolia. The result of the combination of the two add-ons is amazing. I often compare FS with real pictures I find on the Web, and at some places, I can recognize the shape of the mountains, and the general landscape. There is no problem of compatibility between the two add-ons. I did not detect any decrease of FPS while flying (only longer loading times when starting the flight). The terrain textures load as fast as before when I switch the views in flight.I found a few anomalies regarding runway altitudes (on plateaus or in trenches) or lakes. I easily correct these using FSTFlatten and JABBGL for the airports. I also found a few occurrences of "sawtooth" coastal lines and you sometimes see greyish elongated polygons (I think it is the border between high-detail and low-detail (more distant) mesh terrain.) that remain visible during a couple of seconds. But the terrain realism (coupled with Active Sky 2004.5 for weather) largely outweigh these minor anomalies. We are finally getting it "as real as it gets !"RegardsAlain
November 17, 200421 yr HiI am very happy with FS Global 2005.I have some test areas for mesh in the Swiss Alps that I know very well (also in real life). I compared FS Global 2005 in these areas with the Lago European Mesh (that I had used in FS2002) and the MyWorld mesh.I must say that was surprised how well FS Global 2005 showed the scenery in these areas....and having this for the whole world is really something.I also combine it with the landclass files that come with MyWorld (sofar vol. 1, Europe/Asia and vol. 2, the Americas) and this combination seems to be really very good.Walter
