November 16, 200421 yr Just bought a 6800GT at e-bay. My plan was to sell the "old" 9800XT to gain some ground..now...yeah I could sell it...but ye know...there is this XP2800+ here, my 2nd puter with WideFS and ActiveSky and SimCharts and Reliability Factor and togetherwith the 9800XP...pretty fast...well, there are some monitors left over in this corner..and I was told there is this little proggie called WideView...I dunno...the monitors could fit left and right to the 24" 16/10 Sony... the network is already set up and running...I dunno...this hobby is driving me nuts...:+ Alex

November 16, 200421 yr >Driving you nuts? Walk a mile in our shoes Alex.... That>would put it in perspective for you. :-lol From my experience running a small gaming clan, I think walking just a pace in your shoes would make me fall down and cry uncontrollably, Tom. What you do and have put up with here is nothing short of amazing. :-hah----------------------------------------------------------------John S. November 16, 200421 yr Alex, hate to pop your bubble... I do not do this for a living, nor do any of the other 40 or so volunteers. I have a full time management day job for a fortune 10 company. I do this as a "hobby" too. :)
November 16, 200421 yr "What you do and have put up with here is nothing short of amazing." Respect at last!!! Yehaw! Thanks John for making my day. The guys and girls at AVSIM do appreciate it. :)
November 16, 200421 yr Well, you did pop my bubble...I am staring in disbelief as I read this...you are an amazing person. As well as the other 40 of course... Alex
November 17, 200421 yr This hobby is full of truly amazing people. This is the best forum around, Tom - perhaps if I stopped spending my workday reading it I might be working in a Fortune 10 company. LOL Every now and then I think this hobby drives us all nuts -- as I sit here trying to contemplate a way to get out of work early so I can get home to try the new FS Sky World out.
November 17, 200421 yr Tom,Just one question, with working and keeping this web site running, do you ever have time to fly?We appreciate AVSIM and all the volunteers. This is my favorite place to visit on the whole Wide World Web!
November 17, 200421 yr Sorry I have to jump in here. I found this forum has to most mature people around no mater their ages. There is lots to learn for me here even at mid age.
November 17, 200421 yr "Alex, hate to pop your bubble... I do not do this for a living, nor do any of the other 40 or so volunteers. I have a full time management day job for a fortune 10 company. I was watching the MSDN interview with the FS developement team at MS and the only "enthusiast" site they mentioned was AVSIM. That alone means alot when the richest company in the world pays attention to Tom and the others over here who do this as a hobby of love.As for driving someone nuts, I'm struggling every day to balance financial needs against an internet connection. I found out the hard way that when you get a serious injury as a US citizen working in Africa flying an aircraft owned by a London based business being paid by a company based in Dubai U.A.E. that there is no such thing as "workmans comp." But, I decided that I could switch from $9.99 a pound "designer" coffee to plain old Sam's best value type and still get my caffine fix and get my Avsim fix while I recover from surgery.Keep it up Tom, if this site were to ever go away, there would be thousands of grown men and women found sitting in front of thier `puters weeping uncontrollably while reading the error 404 screen.
November 17, 200421 yr Tom,You really do like pain . . .don't you! LOLBestClayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. Dopke (Clay)Major, USAF (retired)"Drac"
November 17, 200421 yr Author Hi Tom, I just wanted to add my 2 cents (euro cents, of course!): all of you guys and girls at AVSIM are really to be complimented. I have been visiting AVSIM even before you took over and you have built up this site to a fantastic community of flightsimmers from all over the world. I used to be a visitor of Compuserve's FSForum. As I was managing a european operation of a Denver based company, I had little spare time and most of it was devoted to getting help (and to a lesser extend, providing help) from and to a small but growing simming community. Then, in 1994 I got my first www connection and shortly afterwards discovered AVSIM (through the owner of Simware, who later on became a friend), which at that time was a simple FS news service. I remember being sad to read that the gentleman that ran it (forgot his name, that's a tribute to age) was going to cease operation. Fortunately for all of us, you took over. The problem is that you made me addicted to AVSIM: since we are retired, my wife and I tend to spend about 3 months in the year in Spain, where of course I did not have an internet connection. But I used to go to an internet caf Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI
November 17, 200421 yr Hey Tom,Got to echo the sentiments of everyone's posts here too. Much appreciation going on here in the UK of your work. Not sure my bosses would appreciate you as much though if they ever found out how much time is spent reading your reviews and forums etc !!! LOL. Never mind my wife !Well done to you all !!!Very Best RegardsEddy:-beerchug
