September 7, 201312 yr Dear all. I currently have a i5 2500k at 4.5ghz using 1.3 volts ( I have been up to 1.425 but I can't get it stable above 4.5ghz) so I was looking to upgrade but my budget will only get me iether a i7 3770k or a new motherboard and a i5 4670k, I would have to keep my pc1600 memory for now. I am using a H110i for cooling and my think about De-lidding the cpu but which would give me the best overclock. Mark.

Well, if you get an 'average' 4670K you may get a 4.3-4.4 overclock from what I've read. That being the case you can expect around 13-15% total improvement over your SB chip. And what this translates to is, if you have a very difficult to process scenario (e.g., NGX at KSEA in PNW scenery w/ sliders well to the right) and you are looking at 20 fps on your current chip, you'll now get 22.4 or so fps on a brand new Haswell. For situations where you aren't stressing the box now, nothing will change. Is that still worth it for you? September 7, 201312 yr If already running at 4.5 Ghz with your 2500K, plopping a 3770K on the same MOBO will net you very little performance gain IMO. The Ivy bridge and Hazwell CPU's have a overclock ceiling of around 4.5 Ghz without de-lidding. The Ivy and Hazwell CPU's are faster clock for clock than the Sandy Bridge examples but I suspect they need to reside on Z77 or Z87 board to realize this improvement. Regards
