PMDG 777 fuel flow numbers significantly inaccurate with engine failure during take off.

Featured Replies

I posted this before but got no response, so hopefully this gets picked up by someone at PMDG that can make this wonderful sim even more accurate!

The FUEL IMBALANCE checklist comes up much too soon after an engine out situation. At 500kg imbalance, the low tank pointer shows up correctly, but the FUEL IMBALANCE EICAS caution shouldn't be triggered that soon. The fuel flow during the engine out in take off was around 15000 kg/hr. It takes considerably longer to get this message on the real airplane and the FUEL IMBALANCE checklist very often doesn't even come up during an engine out situation.

And...per the manual, because I know you've read it, what triggers the fuel imbalance checklist and eicas message? I'll give you a hint...it isn't just triggered by a specific fuel amount difference.

Pilotdude, the FUEL IMBALANCE doesn't come show up at 500-700 kg difference. The low tank pointer will show up at 500kg. This sim is amazingly good as it is, I'm just suggesting a small adjustment (I hope) that will make it even more accurate.

Zebra, not sure why your condescending tone. This is a great sim and I'm sure PMDG doesn't take any offense to my well intentioned critique.

Posting here isn't exactly the correct way to raise issues.  If you feel you have a valid concern, the proper way is support.precisionmanuals.com.  Sure, you might get help here, but if you're looking for a 100% guarantee of a response, this isn't the place...

Verification based on...?

So the pointer is supposed to point at the fact that a tank is lower than another, but it's not supposed to generate an EICAS message to a similar effect?  I find that hard to believe...

Again - verified against what source?

The reference to the fuel pointer is in section 12 FUEL of my FCOM. The point at which the pointer turns to amber is when the FUEL IMBALANCE message is displayed. The FCOM doesn't mention a specific value for this but from my three years flying the real airplane as well as the simulator during engine out maneuvers, it takes quite a long time to show up.

I've had three of my colleagues here in Dubai look at this and they all agree that the fuel flow is way too high and the message comes on too soon. That's about as much "expert" advice I'm going to burn on this issue...

Thanks for the reply Scandi. I'll have a look at the correct place to address my point when I've got some time. Cheers.
