September 12, 201312 yr Hi JD or ronzie, I have a question re rebuilding the database. In another post, JD states '(download latest makerwys) then start rc, and click the rebuild rc scenery database button. do not run makerwys on your own. won't work. it will make things worse'. This is interesting, as I have numerous addons that require a database rebuild - RC4, FS Captain, DBS airport GPS, Super Traffic Board & probably others. It appears I have been wrongly assuming I could just run makerwys once after installing them all, and it would create a new file that all these addons would see. (I realise DBS aiport gps has its own updater, so I do always use that, but for FSC, RC4, & others, they all bring up the same makerwys window so I assumed they were all updating the same file). I assume after reading JD's comment, that in fact if I change some scenery, I should update each & every one individually even though it is writing the same file? I'd appreciate your expertise & any advice on this, regards Keith
September 12, 201312 yr Commercial Member if you add new scenery, you need to click the rebuild rc scenery database button in rc, afterwards. if you add 6 new sceneries, then after you add all 6, then do the rebuild once jd JD Read my blog
September 12, 201312 yr I can't speak for other applications but after RC executes makerwys it continues to copy files to the rcv4 or rcv4x\data folder and then build an additional airport data folder. If RC is on a WideFS client to a networked PC where FS resides then you directly run makerwys first and then on the RC client run from within RC the scenery database rebuild answering Yes to the are you on Wide FS prompt. Be sure in RC your paths are set correctly to the FS host in this case. Now if you are sure makerwys has already been executed by other applications you can "fake" the network response answering yes to the WideFS question and if you paths are set correctly RC will proceed to the file copying part without running makerys again. If you want to verify your rcv4\data files first in your FS folder right click on r5.csv, properties, and get the size and modified date-time. Then browse to your rcv4 orcv4x\data folder and do the same for r4.csv (which is a copy of r5.csv) and also a4.csv (built from r4.csv but has a different size by RC). They should all be nearly matched.
September 13, 201312 yr Author OK thanks for the replies & explanation re RC4. So RC4 has a definite need for using its own updater & that's understood. I suppose I hoped your answer might present a shortcut of some kind when dealing with the numerous other addons that also require updating, but it looks like the only sure way is to update each and every one of them whenever scenery (or multiple batches of scenery) is added, even though some of them may well be carrying out the same update as another addon.
