Installing an autopilot and a Nav/GPS switch in the l-39

Featured Replies

Hi,

the l-39 does have a gps, but no nav/gps switch nor active AP. The l-39 cfg does have an autopilot section but I am not sure if the author actually did any testing

with the entries and whether or not setting the appropriate values to "1" to turn it all on would be enough.

I am looking to refine it a little bit if necessary for the l-39 so that it is a little more appropriate for this type of aircraft and it's characteristics if anyone has any feedback.

There was one thread out on a forum as an example, but the AP acted really strange when I used the values. On an ILS approach it would only work with nav2. I am using the saitek panels so not sure if this may have had something to do with the behaviour. The ALT was immediately engaged when the AP was engaged, even though the ALT button had not been activated. I am just not qualified to figure this one out. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bob

Me says the autopilot section in the cfg is there for every plane. Could be the standard when it comes to designing the cfg itself in FSX. By this, I don't know if those default numbers will match the actual plane.

Seems like the post over in the LS forums points out the lack of any 'HDG' support. Bummer. http://www.lotussim.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=751&highlight=autopilot Adding to the values in this thread, I think I would enable the Yaw Damper too, means yaw_damper_gain = 0.00 then being 1.00. If we're cheating, we're doing it properly! ^_^ Note. You need an extra button or key press command to engage/disengage it.

As for the way of how the AP reacts to powering on, my guess would be that the default AP gauges do it like that. So it's not your fault. You might be able to use another gauge of course. You did expect some ROLL and PITCH mode when engaging, right? Some Carenado gauges support it I think.

Edited. Seems like 'hold current heading' works though. http://www.lotussim.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=469&pid=3289#pid3289

Yep... There's a thread where I asked for a simple 2D popup AP. someone made one and works great for heading and altitude hold.

All.

Thanks so much. I am looking into it now. Looking at the pointer to the maule gauge in the panel.cfg. Is this the access to the cab file where the switch code is located?
