Holy Cow! That Did It For ME (Framerates)

Featured Replies

As I said, I don't pay much attention to FPS, therefore implying when I said that it works for me, that I get few stutters and NO blurring when set to unlimited.

And on and on...

Yeah but Michal, exactly the same thing can be said about someone who when unlocking the frame lock starts to see lots of stuttering and sound issues. Chances are there is something wrong with their config if unlocking the framerate cuases those sorts of issues to become apparent. I mean MSFS is pretty much the only sim I know of that actually even has a framelock. I ran unlocked for months (only started locking it recently becuase I got Active camera and it recomends locking it to 24 or so) and never had problems with stuttering or sound issues at all of any sort (and I only have a 1.8ghz cpu and a GF4Ti4200 vid card). Stuttering is rarely directly tied to framerate at all and is generally a sign of something actually momentarily interfering with the processing of data and literally cuasing the system to puase intermittently. Generally in my experience this is cuased by background apps, spyware, firewalls and A/V software and so on. Locking the framerate may make those issues less apparent, but personally I'd rather uncover the root cuase of the problems all-together, resolve them and then unlock the framerate to experience nice smooth stutter free motion at higher framerates. When I had the framerate unlocked, I didn't find that the framerate varied wildly in any given "mode" (2D, VC, spot cam). I got pretty consistent fps in 2D from a given range, then in the VC I got consistent but lower overall fps, and in the external views I got consistent (like within 5-8 fps) but even higher fps than 2d. So the minimum and maximum fps varied a fair bit bwtween the different possible views, but it didn't vary all that wildly within a given view, if you know what I mean...

I am not about to argue whether locking or unlocking fps is better or worse - very much system and user dependent. But if someone is telling me that with frames locked at 25 fps he gets 13 fps in scenerio XYZ and then after unlocking the frames he gets 25 fps in exatly same XYX scenario I have few choices but either think it is a lie, hyperbole, user error or seriously compromised hardware.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2

Fair enough.

M:an even cursory review of your posts reveals that a large chunk of them are cantankerous and antagonistic, adding little of value to the discussion at hand. My hardware is not compromised, nor do I engage in hyperbole - I reported what I saw; what you get on your system or think about my system is of absolutely no concern or relevance to me. ricardo
