AlacrityPC - help needed

Featured Replies

I'm having difficulty getting AlacrityPC to run.  It looks really handy - something I was thinking about a while back.  This is the error (image below) when I run the default vista profile.  I have also tried creating my own profile but get the same error.  Any help much appreciated!

Is your UAC slider down at the bottom, Tom?

Running AlacrityPC as administrator?

Here's a link to the Razer Game Booster, Tom - you might give it a try, as the interface is a little easier.

Just had it installed 2 days ago to see how it works and I uninstalled it again today after my GPU ran 3 times in a row into a crash. Of course before the deinstallation I did the backup of all the tweaks that Razer Booster did. This worked obviously well because no crash of the GPU anymore.

So I recommend to handle this tool with care.

I removed the Razer link, Spirit, because of all the bad publicity.... Thanks for your input, too. When Iobit owned it - it wasn't like this - it actually worked! Too bad.

Here's my Alacrity setup link in case you've missed something..

Hi Paul, yes I have UAC set to "Never" and have tried running as admin.  I'll have a look at your set-up link and see how I go.

Hi Paul,

thanks for your link.

About Razer Booster I stumbled over it somewhere else and due to my curiosity I gave it a try not that I needed it. I got suspicious after the third GPU crash and thought this might be the Razer Booster, so I did the backup and the deinstallation. No GPU crash anymore after this, that's why I guess they were caused by this tool.

@Tom

Just was curious and installed this AlacrityPC thing. There was no problem to do the installation. The bigger problem (not really) was to find the newest version.

Well, can't help and have no clue why it doesn't work to install for you.

A curious question: Why do you think that you need this tool?

I'm sure that I don't need it and already deinstalled it again.

Why do you tweak your fsx.cfg, Spirit? Why do you overclock your proc to 4.6 gig?

Hi Paul,

well, firstly to get a stable and smooth FSX/P3D at 30 locked FPS. Secondly I like to tweak with fsx.cfg and nVidia profile, that's a kind of fun for me. I'm not so much obsessed in flying except Helicopters which are more challenging.

OC is also something which I would like to understand and get knowledge how it works and how far can I go. This was and is similar to tweaking a kind of fun for me. I like to have a fast, powerful rig. It's like having a fast, powerful car. The side effect is that FSX/P3D run smoother.

I customized my rig by my own because I would like to see if I'm able to build up a high end rig. Obviously I was able to do and it was a challenge.

So I didn't see any improvement in FPS with the use of this tool which switches off background processes I deinstalled AlacrityPC again. It's not worth the effort customizing it. One additional thing is, that I'm always very suspicious about tools which mess around with my system too much. My interest was mainly to see if the installation would be possible or not.

Obviously my rig can handle all the background process activities quite well without any negative influence to my FSX/P3D.

By the way, DX10 is also a kind of challenge to get it working nice. My FSX at DX9 was quite well and I had no trouble but I would like to know what's about DX10. DX10 <> DX9 is not a religion for me, also FSX <> P3D or whatsoever.

Well Paul, why do you tweak and OC? :P

Spirit

The same reason, but my tweaking spectrum is the whole machine - not just add a few Bojote fixes.

You're also right insofar as it's a lot of fun, it's kind of "creative';  it's a challenge, besides - what else is an old fart like me going to do with my retirement years - I have to keep ahead of all the young smart guys.....

I do have a number of services that can be stopped when running FSX as they aren't needed (and can be annoying) although I'd prefer not to disable them completely.  I guess for me it's the challenge to get something working that works for others but not me.  I do a lot of trouble shooting in my job and get some satisfaction when resolving what appears to be an intractable problem, when others have given up.  I'll spend some more time on this issue but may end up admitting defeat and move on with the DX10 journey, which is really my main focus.

Hi Paul,

100% agree!

Well, one has to start somewhere and I stumbled over Bojote's tweaks. It's a while ago and now I understand a little bit more but far away from understanding all, so I go on researching, reading and doing "trial on error".

I also use my retirement years to stay in touch with the ongoing permanent evolution in computing. I started a job in the IT in 1968 and it kept me busy and happy till I retired in 2006. I was involved in main frame computer program design and developing. PC was always a hobby besides the big machines of IBM.

We old farts have to keep our brains busy not to let them fade away too quick.

Ok, understand very well. Maybe I would act the same way. :O

Good luck
