Another FSX problem episode 2

Featured Replies

When I start FSX I see the splashscreen and then the programs stops.

If I login on my PC as administrator, FSX runs normal.

The crash was caused again when running the PMDG 737 NGX visual approach at LOWI (with the Aerosoft Inssbruck sceney).

The error message said that my graphic card AMD Radion 6800 has to less memory.

I was thinking about reinstalling PMDG 737 NGX but since FSX works fine with the administrator login, I think this isn't nescessary.

I have changed the FSX.cfg file acording the Software & Hardware Guide for FSX Version 1.0.4.8, date of issue : july 13, 2013.

As advised to the answer of my prior problem, I have reinstalled the ATI driver after running CCleaner (register cleaner).

I have Win 7 home premium version on my PC, with  Intel iCore 5-2500 cpu @ 3.30 GHz, 8 Gb Ram memory and AMD Radeon 6800 Series Graphic card.

This is the report I get from AppCrashView

I see nothing wrong with your installation of FSX or installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1.  It is up-to-date.  Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 is also properly installed and used by the PMDG 737.  Without these programs, FSX would not start up.

Sharing restrictions caused by added security in Vista and Windows 7 create all kinds of havoc.  There is nothing wrong with your installation of FSX or the FSX program.  It is a problem with your computer system.  Since you are able to start FSX and run it normally when you run it as an Administrator, then that indicates you have User Access Controls turned on and/or you did not right click the installation program on your FSX DVD and select Run as Administrator.  I do not know how many users you have on your computer system but one user could have access to a certain amount of files in fsx and you could have access to a certain amount of files.  When you run it as the administrator fsx knows every file can be accessed as the administrator is the supreme being for your computer.

You can go to your main FSX folder and right click it and check sharing to see if it is shared with Everyone.  If not, make sure you have full control and it is shared.  An easier way would be to download and install a program called TakeOwnership.  Once installed you can then go to the main FSX folder, right click it and select TakeOwnership.  It will then change things to show you have complete ownership.  You also need to do this for any scenery or files located on another HDD.  Go Fly!

Best regards,

Jim

Jim, I've tryed almost everything and the only solution was to reinstall FSX. Now I can start enjoying to fly again.

You likely didn't need to reinstall. It was probably a folder permissions issue left over from having the original installation occur with UAC turned on, which creates havoc just as Jim says.

With UAC turned off, you should create a Power User account and run under that instead of the Admin account.  This is for computer security reasons.  People not doing this is the reason Microsoft created UAC back with Windows Vista an pushed it through Windows 7.

Dave is correct above but sometimes a reinstall is the best option.  Hopefully you can enjoy flying for a long time without too many hiccups.

I did what Dave suggested but even that didn't help. Opening FSX.exe as administrator didn't solve the problem even. After a while I couldn't run FSX after login in as administrator.

Sounds like you most like corrupted your User Profile.  This happens a lot.  Good thing you reinstalled.

Yeah, absolutely.  One of the biggest problems doing tech support from afar is there are just so many variables and each and every system, no matter how similar, is different.  That's why remote desktop tech support is such a gem!

By the way... find one bloody person that you trust for help, recommendations and your tech support, and stick with them.  Bouncing back and forth can get you into trouble.

Jim is an exceptionally knowledgeable and very experienced guy to listen to!  What I love most about him is that he digs into things like the flight sim'rs of old did.  None that passing along advice he read from someone he doesn't know, etc.

His advice is rock solid, and he'll never get you into trouble.
