14 min pause on selection of anything on start screen!

Featured Replies

This problem seem to have started sometime in the last 3 weeks, I have installed the T7, Q400 and A2A C172 around this time but I can't say for sure when it started or if it is at all related.

When i start FSX it takes a while to load and sits in the splash screen for a few minutes, this is normal considering the amount of payware scenery and aircraft. The problem is, on first start up, after FSX is loaded, if I select any option and change it, ie select an aircraft and hit ok or change time of day and hit ok, select a saved flight and press ok....after I press ok, FSX hangs for a total of 14 minutes!

The rotating aircraft stops rotating, the blue circle appears. After 14 mins it works and works without any issue from then on. If I shut down FSX and start again, the problem is gone, selection is instant as expected. I have found if I click the screen during this pause, I get the pop up saying fsx is no longer responding, if I force it closed and restart it, after about 5 or 10 restarts, it will eventually behave normally. This was what I was doing to solve the issue until I decided to leave it alone and see if it would recover.

I have FSX on its own drive, it's defraged and has plenty free space. So far I have made a new default flight as I heard that can cause it. I have deleted the log book, tried a fresh fsx.cfg but no joy. I am thinking it could be direct x perhaps?

I am planning to copy fsx to a new ssd or will considering a fresh install on a new ssd but I would rather copy it but don't wish to copy this problem too.

So, does anyone have any idea how to get rid of this massive pause?

Running fsx accel on win 7 64, 8gb ram if that helps at all.

Cheers. Iain

I'd look seriously at what's running in the background. Check your AV program that it's not rescanning the drive. See if anything is trying to connect to the internet or a server somewhere.  Some payware a/c when first loaded will verify they are legitimate copies by "phoning home".

Try running MSCONFIG and doing a clean boot - then run FSX and see if it happens. Not really enough info for now.

Good luck,

Vic

Cheers, will try your suggestions.

First save a default flight with a default aircraft. In your cfg under main put the line DisablePreload=1   this is what solved it for me. Also turn off any scenery you are not using by going to the scenery library and un tic the ones you are not using.  Josh

No luck with the first suggestions.

I have made a new default flight already with the default Cessna but that didn´t help.

I will try disablepreload option, but bear in mind, once I have waited this 14 minutes, if I then load the saved default flight, it takes about 10 seconds to load.  Lets see.

Hey Josh, I think it´s fixed!  Instant change of time and date after restarting PC and FSX.  Will double check tomorrow with some more testing but I think you hit the nail on the head.

Thanks very much for the tip!

Cheers
