October 7, 201312 yr Good evening - I have been lurking for a long time doing research on various flight sim builds. I wanted to build a strong gaming rig that would be able to last without upgrades for several years. I think I hit the mark, but want some opinions. Case: ***Opinions wanted*** either Coolermaster HAF XM or Coolermaster StormTrooper Motherboard: ASUS Z87-PRO LGA 1150 Intel Z87 Processor: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell 3.5GHz Video Card: EVGA Superclocked GeForce GTX 780 Graphics Card - 967 MHz Core - 3 GB GDDR5 SDRAM Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler H100i RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (CAS of 9) HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Drive: DVD-ASUS-24X ASUS DVD RW 24X SATA Power Supply: EVGA-NEX750B EVGA NEX750B MOD POWER SUPPLY (750 watt, Bronze, 85% efficiency) I plan on OC the processor hopefully to 4.4-4.8 GHz. Thanks for the feedback! -Phil Phil Long
October 7, 201312 yr Take a look at this guide that people have forwarded to me. I am pretty much duplicating what you have planned with different HDD's and power supply, memory and case. Don't know if you are using FSX, P3D, or XP10. Won't make any difference on hardware, however a lot of advice in this guide is for tweaking FSX which won't apply if you use P3D or XP10. http://www.simforums.com/forums/the-fsx-computer-system-the-bible-by-nickn_topic46211&SID=11931624adc5e7b5ab91ez41293f36288425926.html I found a great case from Phanteks for water cooling that will be available in mid October. It has gotten great reviews and is reasonably priced. http://www.phanteksusa.com/products/phanteks-enthoo-primo Once I saw the recomended hardware for P3D I started my research. Since my video card was not DirectX 11 I was going to need a new one. Rather than buy a mid priced DX11 card I decided to get the best. Also, based upon the above link, the advice is that a GPU's performance is tied to the CPU as well, and vice versa, I decided to opt for the best CPU as well. I pretty much followed all the advice and recommendations in the guide. I will be using P3D for my flightsim software. I have ordered the Phantek's computer case and already have two radiators for cooling. A 280mm and a 420mm radiator, a CPU water block, a GPU water block, water pump with reservoir, and the tubing and fittings for water cooling as I plan on overclocking. My build will cost about $3,500.00 by the time I finish. I've spent about $1,000.00 so far. Next month I will order my drives, power supply, card readers, and sound card for another $1,200.00. By then it will be November and P3D should be out by then, or will be shortly. As soon as it is, and I can confirm my build is correct, I will order my motherboard, GPU, CPU, and ram. That will run about $1,300.00. So I am right there with you. By Christmas I hope to be up and running with my new build and enjoying P3D Version 2.0. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the feedback! -Phil Phil, Have you ruled out a SATA 3 SSD or two? I'd have a hard time going back after making the change in my recent new build.
