Decided after much investigation and trial and error, the only way to get this sorted is to use a Windows 7 platform, FSX and then use FS controls for the flight controls.. this is the only way I can see it working properly.. at the moment I think I am stuffed with windows 8.1

Craig, before you take such a drastic step, please take a look at the Windows 8 forum on Avsim.  I don't have Windows 8 so I can't help you, but there is much discussion about joystick and FSUIPC issues, including some regarding PMDG products.  I gather that now that you have eliminated FSUIPC controls, you are probably running into joystick control issues peculiar to Windows 8.  But people on that forum do appear to have some solutions.

Best of luck!

Mike

Thanks for the reply mike, I took a look and tried all kinds of things even the app that channels the controls through sim connect, nothing is working unfortunately.

I will dual boot now windows 7 and 8.1 on separate drives, I figure this is the best way and just keep my windows 7 install for fsx only :)

Thanks for the help though guys!
