October 13, 201312 yr I have had FSX Gold Edition on my laptop for a little less than a year with an Xbox Controller and the other day I turned on my laptop (runs Windows 8) and it said it was installing updates 1/14 or whatever and when it was done, it said that Windows has encountered a problem with a ): Face. So I had to refresh my laptop and it uninstalled FSX. So when I went to install FSX Deluxe it said Error 1722 so I did the KB928080 fix in the command prompt and it worked. I activated FSX: Deluxe Edition on my laptop. I went to go install the FSX: Acceleration pack and it said that FSX Must be activated before installing FSX Acceleration, then it said to run the setup again. I am really frustrated. And to add to that, the XBOX controller that I have been using is now not being recognized by my computer. I was flying normally with it and all of a sudden it changes from Player 1 to Player 2 which leaves me with an unresponsive XBOX controller. I unplugged it and when I plug it back in, it says USB Device not recognized. It seems as if I spend more time fixing all of FSX's problems than actually playing the game! I appreciate the effort of anyone who replies. PLEASE HELP ME!
October 14, 201312 yr Hi mate could be that there are still remnants of FSX and acceleration left on your computer, which is why you are facing problems. Try removing all traces of fsx with this . http://www.filecluster.com/downloads/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility.html only select microsoft flight simulator from the list this is the only way i've found of removing all the bits of FSX and getting a fresh install to work. best of luck steve as for the xbox controller,i don't know anything about them...seems though that you have lost the driver that recognises it.do you have a driver for it?? October 14, 201312 yr Just have a quick check to see if you have some bad RAM - I did and throws out some very innocuous errors that can suggest all sorts of other problems, I ended up replacing my DVD drive, re-formatted my hard and bought another copy of FSX and all because I had a bit of bad RAM. Not sure in Win8 but in Win7 you go to Control Panel, and type 'mem' into the search box in the top right corner. You'll see 'Diagnose your computer's memory problems' which will give you the option to run a DOS tool next time the computer boots. Better still google 'memcheck86' and burn an ISO CD and boot from that. Your RAM may be just fine but it's worth a check.
