how to recompile a bgl file

Featured Replies

I decompiled a scenery bgl file using BGL2xml.

I then edited it in xml and saved.

How do I recompile the file again with a  bgl extension

Trevor

You need the BGLComp SDK, which I believe is in the Avsim library.

Or you can find it here- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555857

OK, I just saw your other topic about editing default AP files. This is a bad idea.

There is no need to edit these files and doing so can cause problems at many airports.

As stated in the other topic, you should use ADE9 to make these changes, not edit a default file.

Just to add for those who might be interested (and ignorant as I was !!!).

The FS9 stock airport for EDDF still has the old ILS frequencies as well as a runway 26.

The latest airac cycle does not match these frequencies and it can be a pain in the butt when trying to do an ILS approach.

To correct/update the ILS frequencies to match the airac cycle was actually a very simple process using bgl2xml and xml2bgl.

I now have the correct freq for EDDF.

Again, thanks for your assistance guys - its great to be part of a most helpful community.

Now take your new *.bgl and run it through bgl2xml.

Compare the new *.xml with the *.xml generated from the original

default file using a program like WinMerge. What you will see is that everything has moved a little bit.

Probably not enough to notice, unless you edit that file again.

Like I said, there is no need to edit default files and the better way to do what you did is to use ADE9, which will accomplish the same thing without introducing the errors.

ADE is restricted  to airport bgls, bgl2xml and xml2bgl can be used for a wider range of bgls...
