Auto Step Climb..

Featured Replies

I have been unable to have 777 perform auto step climb with auto step climb enabled in options menu of CDU,  however now by NOT entering destination STAR and or runway at destination airport on CDU,  it now

works great, enter flight level in CDU and MCP, then CDU calculates higher step climb altitude and automatically sets new altitude on MCP at step climb point, have not tried with manually entered climb altitudes

with "S" after flight level as 380S,

Do it manually. works with SID and STAR entered.

Why would you have a STAR and arrival runway entered when you are still several hundred nm away from top of decent? If you're in a position to auto step climb, I reccon you would be more than 800nm away from TOD in most cases.

In the States, we normally file and enter the STAR prior to departure.  Most of our STARs are not runway/ops dependent like a lot of the rest of the world.  So, that part makes sense.  Adding the runway anywhere outside of about 50nm, though, is jumping the gun (here, at least), so I'm with you there...

I always forget about that :P

"Hmm they havn't given us our arrival details... oh yea, it's actually in our flightplan, duuh." *quickly inserts STAR and reviews crossing restrictions*

Not to mention the conversation at transition altitude I always seem to have when arriving in the USA after a trans Atlantic from Europe.

"ABC123 Descend 17,000ft Altimiter 29.97"

"Descend Flight Lev.., er One Seven Thousand QNH... um Altimeter 2992"

*Switches from QNH to Inches in a hurry to change the setting from QNH1013 to 29.97*

My brain seems to default to "If it's a number bigger than 10,000 it should have "Flight Level" in front of it. And Altimiter settings are called QNH... unless they start with a 2.

Yes Russia's QFE is fun. as is proper millibars "QFE 740" er...

In the NGX I have my default transition altitude set to 10,000ft too, so a quick visit to the VNAV Decent Forecast page is often neccicary.
