AP seem aggressive

Featured Replies

Dose anyone else think the AP is a little aggressive when ajusting the pitch to keep on the VNAV speed during the climb?

Aggressive in what way?  The speed at which it adjusts pitch, or how it's maintaining it?

Either way, pilots have been known to use various methods in the real plane to make the changes less aggressive before re-selecting VNAV.

Well it justs seem to me that it pitches down or up really fast, as if someone to adjust the pitch, pushed ready fast up or down to s certain point therm the over way to a just a little. Sorry if that doesn't Make sence. It's Kinda hard to explain, I geuss to me, it gust seems like the aircraft wouldn't be able to move that jerky.

Funnily enough a week or so again I noticed the NGX's AP acting a little 'grabby' with both bank (heading changes) and pitch (alt changes).  But I'd not notied this before.

I did a complete FSX re-install for something unrelated, (which included full hardware calibration) and now the problem doesn't occur.  I find the NGX likes small but definite null zones for elevator and ailerons.

RW, the plane does a pretty good job in the climb in VNAV. In turbulence, it does wander, of course.

The guy I'm flying with right now doesn't even use VNAV. He instead goes to CWS PITCH and deselects SPEED (I think that's what he does. . ), so the plane climbs at N1 CLB and whatever speed he pitches for. Very smooth, but not a common technique. The nose stays at a constant deck angle.

In descent, I don't think the jet does as well up high. I won't let the plane do VNAV PATH above FL350 because it does overspeeds to often. I do DESCEND NOW (or ALT INT) so I hit FL350 in PATH.

I'm not sure how much is sim vs good modelling of a so-so system, but you're not the first pilot to complain, RW or sim. :)

Yeah I've noticed that it a little jerky on AP turns and that it drifts off in Turbulence. Also I found that my 738 tends to fly right on speed until I get about 350 to 300 then I seem to be a little fast. I was just wondering to it not a big problem.

Never had a problem with the A/P in VNAV - climbs smoothly and follows the FMC all the way down, no overspeeding.  I have used other methiods to descend and no problems.

Ive experience the sudden jump/jerk. generally right after departure and initial activation.
