November 19, 201312 yr Situation: Win8 Pro FSX installed on E:\FSX REX installed on E:\REX I have tried to install several add-on aircraft. This is usually done by copying the aircraft folder into E:\FSX\SimObjects\Aircraft. When this is done, the aircraft appears in FSX and flies and controls properly. However the paint schemes do not appear when in Fly Now mode. (The jpegs do show up in proper color.) The plane comes up all white (like a ghost). Several of these files were used previously without a problem on another PC running a default install in Program Files with Win7. So I assume it is either a Win8 problem or a problem with the install location. Can anyone suggest how to fix this? Thanks
November 19, 201312 yr Why didn't you use the automatic installers?!? What happened to AVSIM
November 19, 201312 yr Why didn't you use the automatic installers?!? Maybe because freeware doesn't usually come with one? B) To the OP: Some more information about which addons you're talking about could really be helpful to help us solve your problem, as you might see. Florian
November 19, 201312 yr It will be nothing to do with Windows 8 and your installation location seems fine. I am guessing that what you mean is that the aircraft do not have pictures of them in the aircraft menu. What you see in the "Fly Now" screen is the actual aircraft model and if it's not there it won't be in the Sim either. FSX aircraft need a thumbnail.jpg file in their texture folder which is a picture of it, otherwise you will see a greyed out aircraft, as you do. Look in a default aircraft texture folder and you will see what I mean. It's not hard to make your own. Regards, Nick.
November 19, 201312 yr That's true, with FS9 aircraft but then they would be grey all the time but he says "the aircraft appears in FSX and flies and controls properly". More information required.
