December 13, 200421 yr Know if any US airlines still use the 727? I know Pan AM does, any that I'm missing. I hope this doesn't get removed, I'm just trying to line up some flights in my new DF 727. :-jumpy
December 13, 200421 yr I have flown on grey and red 727s on at least 3 occassions in the past 3-5 years for sure. Minneapolis,MN to Minot,ND as well as Minneapolis,MN to Colorado Springs,CO and Minneapolis,MN to New York (LaGuardia). So if that airline no longer has a few of them operating, they can't have been gone for too long.By the way the Minneapolis,MN to New York's LaGuardia flight I will never forget. The airport was being closed due to incredible gusty crosswinds, and we were the last flight allowed in. It took 3 attempts to get on the ground. We landed with a full tilt (on the nose gear, and right main) and when the left side came down, it shook everyone up badly. Several people lost their minds, and began to cry and break-down. The local press was waiting to interview passengers when we got off. Welcome to New York!(I pondered, researched, and studied the pilots actions in the crosswind landing for several weeks after that flight and concluded that he performed a text-book landing that was ultimately succesful. However, I am quite confident that he most likely exceeded his airline's policy for crosswind and gust limits at the surface. Possibly the airplane manufacturer's limits as well.)Jordan Moore
December 13, 200421 yr Wouldn't you love to find the METAR data for that day! You could recreate the terror. The grey and red's website doesn't show the 727 anymore. It's a shame. I miss the old 727s and L-1011s especially.
December 13, 200421 yr Amerijet...Cargo out of Miami/Ft Lauderdale. Not a passenger airline, but active. I have them in my AI traffic

I was in the Washington DC area about 7 years ago and they had some really bad storms blow though in the afternoon with tornado warnings. This less than intelligent Pilot on a US Air Flight elected to try a takeoff on runway 1 at National airport when all the other pilots were taxiing back to the gate after telling the tower that they would take a pass on flying out until conditions improved, because of windshear warnings on the airport. Well Capt Jerk decides to go anyway, and proceeds with his takeoff roll and one of the other pilots comments as the US Air Plane rolls down the runway, " He is either really brave or stupid" into his radio". Well just prior to rotation , the plane starts drifting to the left side of the runway and the left wing dips down and catches one of the runway light assemblies and it takes a chunk out of something on the wing. Needless to say, they were waiting for Captain Bozo when he landed at Boston, with a welcoming committee of FAA types. Don't think he did too much flying after that, at least not in the Cockpit.

December 14, 200421 yr A few months ago there was a 727 on the ramp at KLWB with the Miami Dolphins logo. I assume there was some NFL function at the Greenbriar Resort Hotel. There have been others which were either charters or private for other similar functions.Happy FlyingRTH
