November 23, 201312 yr Right, I'm looking to re-skin an FS2004 aircraft for use in FSX, it's textures are pants, so I'm basically having to redraw them from scratch anyway. I want to change a few things up, but first I need to know that it'll work and I won't be wasting my time... The textures are currently 1024x1024, if I simply make the new textures 2048x2048 (without mip maps!) will they load as usual or is the texture size coded into the model or anything? I know that in FS9 the max texture size if 1024, but I'm assuming this is set by the sim, so it won't be an issue in FSX? Similarly if I change the texture format will they work ok? They're currently in extended bmp format and I'd rather use DXT-5 (simply because then I can save directly from photoshop without needing to use DXTbmp). Lastly I'm guessing that I can't add the likes of a bump map unless it's been built into the model and it's expecting to find one?
November 23, 201312 yr Resizing to 2048 is OK. DXT5 should be fine. Yes, bumps have to be coded into the model, you can't add them. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.

November 23, 201312 yr Absolutely correct Joe.Nevertheless I prefer to use extended 32bit 888-8 for its better quality , especially when using lower resolutions such as 1024 or even 2048.When using 4096 in FSX extreme detail can be achieved. It would be very nice to add normals to existing models, thats possible in X-Plane but sadly enough not in FSX.
