November 26, 201312 yr I know there's a network subforum but this get's a lot more traffic. Are there any network guru's in the house? I have a Netgear WNDR4000 (N750) router. The router is downstairs. For comparison I tested my phone (wifi 2.4 GHz) next to the router and used to get about 15mpbs down. The other day I wanted a little more bandwidth upstairs so I bought a range extender TP-LINK- http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WA850RE-Universal-One-button-Indicator/dp/B00E98O7GC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1385477922&sr=8-1&keywords=to+link+range+extender Intermittently it seemed to work but overall added instability to the network (to connect it to the network I used the WPS push button on my Netgear). And the worst thing - after I removed it, AND reset factory default settings on my router, the bandwidth dropped massively. Now my iphone only get's about 2mpbs down NEAR the router! Argh... what the heck would cause this? Did I screw something up in the router by adding the range extender? No matter what I do I cannot get the 15mbps back! The rest of the house is terrible now. Can't really even use the wifi.... argh Any ideas? edit: For a quick test I nearly forgot about the 5GHz broadcast from the router. I connected to that with my IP5 and got a whopping 20 mbps down! So, maybe there's some type of interference on the 2.4 GHz band? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

November 29, 201312 yr Author And this is why it's annoying that we have sub forums in the hardware section. NO ONE visits them! Thankfully I fixed the issue- it was our baby monitor interfering on the 2.4 GHz spectrum. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
December 26, 201411 yr Most portable phones operate on 2.4ghz as do microwave ovens, I have a dual band router also manged to get a 5 gig portable phone. There is a possibility someone in the near vicinity is using the same channel. Doing a scan i am the only one on 5 gig in this street and at my last address. Go here and download wireless net view it will let you see who else is on and what channels are in use.
