Thanks again everyone! Ohhhh I didnt know that the Fokker70/100 had a stabilator *doh* - as one of you said that *does* explain the large housing sitting on top of the tail. I guess I was getting in a flap because I though only the elevators should move!At first I thought it was normal but then I looked at photos of F-100s and saw nowhere near the extreme deflection as the PF 100 so I new something was up!n4gix - Thanx :) I shall do the same and punch in those numbers!

Does anyone know what it's for though?

Hi there -I think I meant to ask what was the whole thing for.I mean that other planes don't have such big movements in their elevators and I would think that if it went out of whack when you were flying you'd be in, lets say, a bit of a pickle.A lot of a pickle.

The typical installation has the axis of rotation at the aerodynamic center, pivoting on a fixed axle.However, since I don't spend a great deal of time watching the a/c's tail, that's really a trivial issue for me... :)I'm just delighted and pleased as punch to even HAVE this cool little bird back in the virtual sky!

Very interesting site and explains just why the Fokker(and many others,I guess) use the stabilator. It's more efficient. This is another great post!

The F100 shares the same stabilizer configuration as the BAC-111 (or was it the Trident?) in which part of the tail moves with the stabilizer.It is NOT a stabilator but rather a trimmable stabilizer. The elevators SHOULD work as normal just like the 737 or DC-9 or any other airliner.I have no idea as to why it is acting that way.
