December 20, 200421 yr Hi guys, sine FS9 I never got rid of the shimmering autogen. Even with 4xAA it wouldn't go away. Seems better with 4XS but the fps hit is unbearable. I changed from ATI to Nvidia...no cure.Under each section in the terrain.cfg I found a line RenderToTexture=1. As I can't leave good enough alone I changed all these lines to RenderToTexture=0 and the shimmerig seems a lot better. Greatly improved but by no means gone though.Could someone try and confirm this or tell me if this is just my imagination? Alex
December 20, 200421 yr I believe you are correct to have adjusted that setting. there is also a render to texture box in the hardware section of the display options. Interesting enough, I have that box checked. So, I do not understand why there would be a 0 in the terrain.cfg, yet render to texture box is checked as active in the sim. One more note...as I recall with Nvidia cards, you will get much better performance with render to texture checked in the display option...confusing, I know...I guess you will just have to experiment until you get it worked out to your satisfaction.Sherm
December 21, 200421 yr In my terrain.cfg NONE of the sections have that line.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
December 21, 200421 yr Guess I was wrong here. Seems it was just a mix of Lennarts textures and a lower vis setting that made me believe this. In the FS options I have RenderToTexture set to off as I am using ActiveSky. So I thought it can't hurt to change the lines in the terrain.cfg. As to why others don't have that entry ...bummer. I guess an addon might have changed the terrain.cfg. Alex
December 23, 200421 yr I DO have the RenderToTexture Line. It appears that it was created by the American Data add on.
December 23, 200421 yr Yes, it was and when delete it or set it to 0 now I do not have roads and streams in Europe. I wonder what that is all about.Alex
December 23, 200421 yr With older versions of the Nvidia Drivers, I was able to adjust the Shimmering Autogen out by adjusting the LOD level. It had a range of -2 to +2 and somewhere between -1 an 0 worked best for me.Does anyone know what tweaking tool will allow the LOD adjustments in the latest Nvidia Driver? I have Coolbits to unlock the autoclocking feature, But I do not see the LOD adjustment.Dennis
December 23, 200421 yr You can do that with Riva Tuner. Nice tip. I am off experimenting. So far an LOD bias of +0.4 seems to look better. But I have to try a little more yet.Alex
December 24, 200421 yr RivaTuner, thanks. Maybe it was juat above zero, not just below. I have been away for a while and I forgot. Thanks, Dennis
December 24, 200421 yr OK, I got RIVA Tuner. I set the LOD Bias Range to 2 (-2 ro +2). Now how do I set the LOB Bias. Does it add this afjustment to my Nvidia Driver?Dennis
