December 25, 200421 yr Now it hit me. I have read about this in almost any FS forum but it seems noone has come up with a solution. My ATC text disappared. I mean not the spoken messages which you can configure in the ATC menu but the selections which usually always appear.Anyone found out what causes this?Alex
December 25, 200421 yr Still no solution. I suspect that somehow the font FS uses got corrupted. Can anyone tell me which font that is?Alex
December 25, 200421 yr I have seen messages regarding "corrupted fonts"...and it didn't act like anything you describe. Those people still had an ATC "selection" screen...but it was unreadable. On the "settings" | "ATC" window...which items do you have checked?1. "Show ATC text": Shows ALL atc text, wether directed to you or not.2. "Auto-open ATC window": This opens an ATC response window when messages are directed at YOU.3. "Use a pilot voice": Your replies are vocally spoken by the voice you choose. I have 2 and 3 checked. I'm not touting these as the answer to your problem...just a starting point. We can go from there. Victor Buck
December 25, 200421 yr Problem solved. Geofa had the same problem a few weeks ago and I have read it on the other site too.I reinstalled the Quartz font and voila....everything back to normal. I am only wondering what deleted or corrupted the font.....maybe I should clock down my poor CPU a bit :-).Alex
December 26, 200421 yr I have read the same reply, regarding the "Quartz" font...and you know what? That font is nowhere to be found on my computer...yet my ATC works fine?? There's more to it than that, me thinks. Victor Buck
December 26, 200421 yr Now that is fishy. I have copied the font from my 2nd computer as I have read the quartz font thing in another forum. The install surely solved the problem. No other changes made. Not in the graphics driver settings neither in FS. However I restarted the computer. Maybe that alone solved it. Anyway, I am up and running again. As far as I remember when Geofa had the problem it simply went away after a few days.Alex
December 26, 200421 yr ####' that did no solve it. The problem keeps comin ack. A restart of FS helps...but after an uspcified time it keep oming back. Wonder if any of the disabled services is responsible for this. Any connection between a certain service and fonts?Alex
December 26, 200421 yr >Any connection between a certain service and fonts?>>Alex>I would be shocked if this was true. When I run FS, I have so few services running that I'm amazed that anything can work but FS9 chugs along without a problem. But saddly I don't have a clue as to what's causing your problem. Here is what I understand is happening. An FS session starts out fine with ATC issuing directions and you seeing options on your screen which you select to answer ATC. At some point, you hear ATC talk to you but this time, you do not see the options displayed for your response. Is that what is happening? If so, then:- Do you still see the box?- If you respond (a know good response for a know instruction), does that satify ATC?- If you enable the ATC steaming text, does it go away at the same time?- Could they be talking to an AI plane with the same or a similar callsign?- Or, have I misunderstood the whole problem?R-
December 26, 200421 yr Do you still see the box?Yes.- If you respond (a know good response for a know instruction), does that satify ATC?Yes.- If you enable the ATC steaming text, does it go away at the same time?No.- Could they be talking to an AI plane with the same or a similar callsign?Definitely not. When I open the ATC box by myself I won't see any text either.- Or, have I misunderstood the whole problem? Not at all. BTW for the time being after I restarted the last time the problem didn't come back.Alex
December 27, 200421 yr Author I think this is related to how Windows displays various windows (as in the active window being displayed in front. Somehow, and it happens occasionally on my machine when I start the Eaglesoft CitationX and somehow it had all of its 2D windows displaying at once. I would need to use SHIFT 1 thru 7 to close the various 2D views down, and then the ATC text won't show up, even though the actual window displays. December 30, 200421 yr I have the same problem as you described. Tried different video drivers to no avail. The only solution I found, though not satisfying, is to turn off transform and lighting. That brings the text back, but it slows down performance. I'll try the Quartz thing, and see if that brings any relief.Paul
December 30, 200421 yr Well, reinstalling all fonts from the original FS2004 CD (CD nr. 1, MSGAME1.CAB) to the 'fonts' folder in FS9 did the trick. I can now enable T&L without having the text in the ATC window disappear.Paul
December 31, 200421 yr I was out of town and couldn't reply to this thread-but a similar problem manifested for about a week a few months ago-then went away magically by itself.I attributed it to an aircraft-but am not sure that was the problem-however I used to regularly save startups with non default aircraft.. I have noticed more and more commercial writers are advising saving as your default setup the microsoft default (e.g. c-172, Seattle etc.)-and state that not doing so can be a source of problems including performance.I have to say since doing this I haven't had any troubles and the sim runs a lot better(performance)......(including atc text being there!). :-)http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 31, 200421 yr Geofa,I have since studied this problem and my belief is that it has something todo with the information of windows locations that are stored in a saved flight.I think it is absolutely necessary after you have changed drivers, that you load the default flight before and immediately after installation of the new drivers. Otherwise FS will have information on windowws locations which are based on your old display information which can mess up things big time.Alex
