Offline ATC starts vectoring too far away for GA plane

Featured Replies

I fly mainly slow GA planes. When I fly IFR I discovered that FS2004 built-in offline ATC starts vectoring me for final approach about 50NM from destination. While this distance is OK for fast flying ariliner is to far away for GA plane. I prefer flying according to my flight plan.Is there any way to convince FS2004 ATC to start vectoring when I'm closer to the airport, lets say abuot 20NM?

I don't believe there is a way to alter this figure in FS2004 ATC. Your option would be to use a different ATC system. Online such as VATSIM is one good possibility. If you want to fly only IFR flights Radar Contact is well thought of and quite accurate. A more recent program that is on its way to getting the bugs out is VOXATC. This is a true voice recognition ATC program that operates as a module within FS2004. You can fly VFR with flight advisories or IFR. It is the next big step in realism for real pilots and pilots in training. The only downside is you have to turn off the AI traffic cause it doesn't interact with built in traffic and the hit on frame rates is quite high if you try to run both at the same time. A fully functioning demo is available that allows flights between three airports and can be found at: www.voxatc.comHave fun flyin'Zane

Thanks for tipsBut as non-native English speaker I don't think any voice recognition system will be able to recognize my spoken English :(

Poitr,When ATC first starts instructions for approach you can select a different approach or if there are approach options you can select a navaid or waypoint on that approach that you are guided in to. Frequently the navaid is one that was already in your flight plan so that is an option worth your looking in to.Hope this is of help to you, I didn't realize our difficulty with english. It is true that the voice recognition is trained to your voice. For this to work you might have to use the voice trainer for each flight so the words used in that flight are trained to your voice.Zane

I'll try some VOR or NDB approaches instead of ILS. Maybe ATC will let me fly to navaid (VOR or NDB) as filed instead of trying to vector me to final approach course for ILS.Or I'll try flying VFR on top and asking for IFR approach when I'm 20NM or so from destination. Thanks for tips.

Its time some smart guy 'hacks' into the FSatc. It is quite good, but needs some refinements..Johan[A HREF=http://jdserver.no-ip.com]Personal Server[/A]or..http://62.238.33.10
