December 26, 201312 yr Hi all I'm buying a new pc and am deciding whether to opt for a seperate PCI sound card. Onboard sound seems pretty good. What is the benefit of an additional card?

You can do this with a USB headset with no soundcard, Andrew Dixon"If common sense was compulsory everyone would have it but I am afraid this is not the case"
December 30, 201312 yr You can do this with a USB headset with no soundcard, Excellent point. There really is no great benefit having a sound card for FSX unless you are really super picky about audio quality. BTW I've been spoiled by a really good sound card, so for me there is no going back on onboard sound (well maybe on a really high end mobo). Even with my current mobo, I could hear what it lacked so I got a pci to pci-e adapter for my 6 years old X-Fi sound card. But then again, it was stuff besides FSX which drove me to this.
