Whilst everyone is fussing over the new FTX Vector library, I rebuilt some OSM scenery for Switzerland using a few hacks which I've been working on, the results are really quite nice, especially at sunset/sunrise

All scenery used is completely free, and includes:

- HD Mesh v2 from alpilotx

- Photo scenery from simheaven.com (but can be generated yourself using g2xpl (donationware)

- OSM objects using OSM2XP with a few custom hacks, i.e.

  • Street lights only applied to residential roads. Where tagged correctly, the effect is great, especially in areas like France/UK
  • Forests and buildings with holes (i.e. Multipolygons) are rendered as well, this adds far more buildings and forests into some European areas where these are extensively used.
  • Heights of buildings decreased from the default to only show 2 stories maximum if no height is defined. To me it's more realistic, but it's a matter of taste.
  • Decreased LOD of buildings to 12km. It can still hit frame-rates quite hard in some areas like Zurich, but it's still possible to fly without it turning into a slideshow.

I use a low gamma setting on my computer which makes the screenshots appear dark on some monitors. I actually prefer this than the bright colours of aerofly and FSX.

Your profile picture perfectly illustrates my reaction when I saw these shots.
