December 30, 201312 yr Hi. Not sure if this is a DX10 issue, but I`m having real bad frame rates now the weather is getting worse. (Mostly fly online with Vatsim). I`m using the new REX4 textures, thinking this would help. My PC is overclocked to a stable 4.8ghz but is brought to its knees in heavy clouds. I have the DX10 fixer installed. Is it possible my GTX560ti is the bottle neck now? Do I need a GPU with more than 1gb? I cant do any more with the cpu, and i`ve added the usual fsx.cfg tweeks. Maybe I should leave FSX until the summer, when weather gets better?

December 30, 201312 yr Commercial Member Hey Les Paul Rocker from my generation - yes it is widely known that heavy clouds can cripple most systems. The best recommendation is to upsize your GPU to a 680 / 780 gen product and then smoke some fine CO product. Just kidding of course about the GPU. Anyway you can get really good results if you can score a couple of cheap 680s running in SLI as our systems can hang in the 40's / 50's with heavy clouds running FSXAssist with the following settings. Here is an example of what I'm talking about. Swarming clouds will yield lower FPS. Regards jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
December 31, 201312 yr What is your resolution of your clouds, draw distance set and your AA settings? The higher the res clouds and the higher the AA setting the worse it gets and it compounds with each level of setting you go up. I compromised with 100 mile draw distances at 2x AA because more clouds is more important to me than eliminating every little jaggy. At such high resolutions (5760x1080) AA doesn't bother me that much anyway but it will shred your frame rate on a cloudy day guaranteed if you are popping 4096 cloud textures and 8x AA. December 31, 201312 yr Author OKI. I`ve put my Nvidea Inspector back to FSX defaults, and I have no frame rate issue at all. What is the setting on this that is killing my PC? HAPPY NEW YEAR
December 31, 201312 yr OKI. I`ve put my Nvidea Inspector back to FSX defaults, and I have no frame rate issue at all. What is the setting on this that is killing my PC? HAPPY NEW YEAR With clouds, it is ALWAYS AA settings + Cloud Resolution. Those two things combined at high levels will bring even the mightiest machine to it's knees.
