December 31, 201312 yr Your water effects slider in the Fsx.cfg should be no higher than 5. Play with that setting. Looking at the first photo, it looks like you have every slider set to the max. December 31, 201312 yr Good Morning, Jho! Heck of a question! I reckon the "secret", if there is one, is patience! That being said - my personal choice for waves is Active Sky's "Frequency" when using DX10. It used to be "Sparkling" when using DX9. There are hundreds of folks on these forums, asking much the same question as you ask here, and a great number of others who have got their water where they want it. Those that have it where they want it had to work at it, as everyone's pc is different - even the monitor resolution makes a difference. As with almost every setting in FSX - most often it is "try "this one", reject it - write it down", - "try "this one", reject it - write it down", - "try "this one", reject it - write it down". Sooner or later - you will see a difference in performance, or will come across one that you like. I can't think of anyone who has been satisfied with either of the FSWC offerings, with most preferring some variation from REX or Active Sky. I have not been successful with REX water - only their clouds, and I don't really see much difference between REX's and AS's! December 31, 201312 yr Author Paul do you have any video of your waves ? Jim my current water settings are High 2.x Thanks for the input fellas JHo Jaime Horton
December 31, 201312 yr No - 'fraid not, JHo. I had an old one of Bowerman and the Waco, but it was more from demo'ing a circuit, that sightseeing. All I can add at this moment, is that the waves move, and the whitecap size is determined by wind direction and speed. High 2x is good. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
December 31, 201312 yr Personally I have tried DX10, and I guess my system was to low in everything to run it, and kept freezing up, so I don't use it, even with my new computer. I find I have a very nice water texture without it. I do have a question, maybe someone here could answer. What exactly does DX10 do for the sceneries. ?
December 31, 201312 yr Author its more what it does for the way the program uses your video card and CPU Paul can explain in more detail he has a great info sheet on buffer pools ill never go back to DX9 Thanks JHo Jaime Horton
January 1, 201412 yr What exactly does DX10 do for the sceneries. ? FSX was programmed with DX9 (DirectX) technology. In 2007, the Microsoft development team started to reprogram FSX for DX10 which was a much better technology (especially if you have a nice video card). They needed to release Acceleration/SP2 and didn't have time to fully program FSX for DX10 technology. So they released a DX10 Preview instead and intended to work on the DX10 programming for a future release. But Microsoft terminated the FSX development team before any further updates to the technology could be released. There were some bugs in the DX10 Preview release and Steve fixed most of those issues my modifying a file in the Shaders10 folder for DX10. It has been proven beyond any doubt that DX10 increased FPS by 20% under load - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ptaylor/archive/2007/10/02/acceleration-and-sp2.aspx. This link will also provide you some info on what DX10 does to FSX. It's directly from the lead developer's blog. P3DV2 is not using DX11 technology. Used properly, developers can do more exciting things for us. With the release of the DX10 Fixer (payware), most of the issues in DX10 have been resolved. The problem everyone is really having is raising their settings to the highest possible level (both in the display driver and fsx.cfg) and a lot of simmers like to fly old FS9 and earlier stuff which is mostly not compatible unless you use the Addon_ConverterX program. Yet, older textures must be converted then rendered in DX10 technology and that's not the best solution. If you are going to play with DX10, you need to fly with the latest and greatest technology. DX10 will not mess with your DX9 installation and vice-versa. You can switch to DX10 and back to DX9 anytime you want and, if you are like me, you can use the exact same display driver and Fsx.cfg settings. Many though have a setup for DX9 and a setup for DX10 (which IMHO is cumbersome). In any case, that's the way Microsoft Development team members had envisioned.... go from DX9 to DX10 and back to DX9 whenever you feel like it. I only use DX10 now. DX9 is old technology and I'm always looking forward to the future. It's a shame FSX will never be programmed for compatibility for DX11 but then we have a chance to see all of that with LM P3DV2. Configurations for DX9 and DX10 setups are shown in the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide (see link in my Signature). Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! January 4, 201412 yr If you have shader=3 in your cfg file that may be the problem. I had the same problem until I removed it and now my water looks awesome
January 4, 201412 yr Thanks, devgrp! I don't use this mod (except when using DX9) and have done no testing! I guess my work's cut out for today. January 4, 201412 yr Author Dev i dont see that line at all in my Config is it in a particular area ? Thanks JHo Jaime Horton
January 4, 201412 yr It's not there by default, JHo: It was part of Bojote's discoveries about five or six years back, and added to the fsx.cfg by the user to enable the use of shaders version 3.0. This improved a few things and generally was a plus for FSX. At that time (as it still is) the default shaders system for FSX DX9 is version 2.0. DX10 uses version 4.0, so there's no need to have it in the sim at all.
