For people who don't know him. William B "Bill" Overstreet. The WWII pilot of the P51 Mustang "Berlin Express" has passed away.

 He died on Sunday in Roanoke Virginia.

 Here is a brief history of Mr. Overstreet from WWII.

 

 

In the Spring of 1944 , Bill Overstreet of the Famous 357th FG, was hot on the tail of a German ME109G. The Pilot of the ME109 flew right over Pairs, where German anti-aircraft artillery was heavy, probably in hopes they would solve his problem by eliminating Bill and his P51C named "The Berlin Express". Bill persisted through heavy flak closing the gap between him and the ME109. Already hit in the engine, as a last resort the ME109 pilot aimed his aircraft towards the imposing Eiffel Tower, and in a breathtaking maneuver flew right under the Eiffel Tower. Even this did not shake up Bill Overstreet, who followed right behind and scored even more hits in the process. The German ME109 crashed moments later and Bill escaped the flak around Paris by flying low and at full throttle over the river.

 

 Mr. Overstreet also flew unconscious for 90 minutes after his Oxygen was shot out, and in another event , his eyes were swollen shut, and had to be led back to England from Berlin.

 

 Bill flew with, Bud Anderson, O'Bee O'Brian and Chuck Yeager.

 

 REST IN PEACE Mr. OVERSTREET. You will be missed.
