FSX Quits w/ No Error Message

Featured Replies

As in the title, FSX randomly closes with no error message whatsoever. It's quite frustrating, and it tends to happen while in auto-cruise with the T7. There is nothing in the event viewer that is helping me track down the cause of this problem.

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks!

Is that during accelerated flight?

I have to put FSX AI traffic sliders to 0 if I want to use accelerated flight.

Otherwise it drops out of warp speed every 30sec or so :-(

Maybe your crash is related to that also.

Give it a try, once at cruise FL put the traffic sliders to 0 and when not using accelerated flight anymore, turn AI back on.

Nah, AI is, and always has been, off, that's not it unfortunately :(

Anyway, my FSX HDD just bit the dust, so it's a full reinstall for me, I guess :/

Oh boy :-(

Buy yourself an SSD if you can afford it!

No maintenance required (like name defragging) and always fast.

With SSD you know there is one thing less that could be bottlenecking FSX!

Mwahaha, I'd totally get an SSD, unfortunately I have a library full of Steam games that need installing too! :(

I'd try what Rob said first. I am having in cruise Crash To Desktop events too. I built this computer last year and flew around in Europe mostly with my NGX and world wide with my 777 with no problems. Then I started flying NGX around the United States and experienced crashes almost every flight. I am using Ultimate Traffic II but I found when I disabled it and had no AI traffic I have not had a single crash. I am testing it with just using the Stop Traffic function when I am in cruise which seems to be working. After doing almost a months worth of trouble shooting I did a full reinstall of Windows and everything else, partly because I thought I screwed something up with the computer during my trouble shooting, and I still have the problem. Having no AI traffic in flight is the only thing that is working for me so far.

Yeah, it seems to be the consensus, unfortunately for me though, I never had any AI to start with, which makes this issue even more perplexing! :P

the Stop Traffic function

Hey, what is that? A PMDG option in the CDU? Some piece of addon software I am not familiar with...or an Ultimate traffic option?

Any chance you are using Sweetfx. I have the same issue, crashing with out error, that I attribute to Sweetfx on my system. Not sure it applies to you.

Intel i7 10700K | Asus Maximus XII Hero | Asus TUF RTX 3090 | 32GB HyperX Fury 3200 DDR4 | 1TB Samsung M.2 (W11) | 2TB Samsung M.2 (MSFS2020) | Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280mm AIO | 43" Samsung Q90B | 27" Asus Monitor

Stuff crashing out without any errors usually indicates failing hardware (most often the HDD that the program that crashed out resided on).

As you say, Aamir, your FSX HDD just bit the dust. I'd bet you a tenner your HDD has failed S.M.A.R.T.

If no error at all is written to the logs, it means FSX didn't error, or the HDD/Windows dumped you out and no error log was written either because the system didn't log on e, or that the system itself has issues because of failing hardware (which in turn corrupts files).

I had the exact same thing with the exact same PC I am on now. It would just reboot, with no errors. FSX (and other programs) would just dump out, again with no error. I changed my HDDs (S.M.A.R.T test said they were fine) and reinstalled W7 and FSX onto SSDs and it hasn't done it since.

Just a thought...

Hope you sort it

It's part of Ultimate Traffic. If you have that program you can find the option under the addon menu or just press CTRL+SHIFT+T.

Indeed, I was using SweetFX, but this problem has never occurred before with SFX installed.. Pity, I just got FSX set up the way I wanted, too :(

I'll be installing SweetFX again, but I'll take special note of this if it continues, thanks!

Aye, it remains to be seen now, once I stop being lazy and install FSX..
