January 1, 201412 yr Just finished watching "Island in the Sky" from the John Wayne collection. Great movie from 1953. DC-3/C-47 down in the wilds of a Labrador winter. Burr, -40 degrees F. Fellow pilots involved in the search. A very good look at harsh winter flying conditions in the early 50's. Lots of good extra stuff on this CD also. I have had it for some time but decided this was a good time to see it again as I watch the snow fall outside and contemplate going outside to blow out the driveway. Steve
January 1, 201412 yr And a Happy New Year to you, too, Steve. I spent most of the day shirtless! Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
January 3, 201412 yr Author Thanks Luis, Just trying to keep things interesting. Sure looks nice in the islands. We are looking at a -15 degree (F) wind chill here tonight. Probably a lot of people around here never even heard of John Wayne LOL. Steve
January 4, 201412 yr Hi Folks Steve - Excellent film, though not viewed it this century. If not already aware, I'd most thoroughly recommend reading the autobiog on which it's based, Ernest K. Gann's Fate is the Hunter. If you are still flying FSX, recommend Owen Graham's FSX mission versions of EK Gann's Valhalla & Gypsies tales, from the same autobiog. Linked to elsewhere, as originals were lost in AVSIM crash and have not been re-uploaded. PS Albeit late, a very Merry Xmas & a Happy New Year to everyone. HTHATBPaul ODG Preview
