No payware quality HECA airport?

Featured Replies

New screenshots were published for Service pack 1 on simMarket

As to posts #15 and #16, I bought this SDG Cairo product from Simmarket two weeks ago.

I paid 21 Euros (exempt from VAT). It was still a fairly significant price, especially in the light of some high quality airports I bought from Simmarket during the same fortnight for 7 or 8 Euros.

It attracted my attention because I have a couple of other payware Egyptian airports. I was not impressed by the screenshots on Simmarket but history has taught me that in many cases what I end up seeing on my computer is better than what the product screenshots show. That was the case with this product.

What tipped the scales for me were the customer reviews on the Simmarket site, one glowing and two from another purchaser who initially expressed some lack of satisfaction and then, in a second post, praised the customer service and expressed satisfaction. The developers are very pro-active with customers. I have had three emails in two weeks from them. Yesterday's email was telling me the version with SP1 is now available and giving details for downloading and installing. The usual email along those lines arrived from Simmarket about six hours later.

I have downloaded but not yet installed and used the version with SP1.

I have only used my initially installed version once (about two weeks ago) - with the Default AirTrike (whenever I first install an airport, I give it a quick try with the AirTrike). Therefore, I have no experience of what it might be like with a more demanding aircraft like the PMDG 737NGX. However, from that short try-out I am satisfied with my purchase. I will report back after I try the SP1 version with a more demanding aircraft.

  • 4 weeks later...

Installed the pay-ware SimDesign Cairo yesterday.

My first  install went to the "C" disk and I had trouble finding it in the Scenery Library ( way down at Nr. 236 ).

So I un-installed and manually changed the FSPath .inl as suggested which went to where I wanted it to be, my

FSsims are on another disc. Library number was still 236 and as I have elevation mesh issues with the surroundings I move this near to the top.

Reported this to SimDesign, they will try and find a solution (quick reply).

As I needed to re-install I had to contact the website for re-validation of the key, you get a maximum of 2 re-validations per month something I have never come across before. Not customer friendly.

What happens if a re-install is necessary and the company does not exist any more. This applies to all the on-line registrations I think.

Learnt my lesson, try and find relative info on the website ( which mentioned re-validation)

before buying, also at the moment  with this key issue and the graphics I may not have bought this scenery so quickly.

But like a lot of members I wanted a Cairo airport.

Have others similar issues as mine.

Have FSGlobal 2008 & GE Africa/Middle East.

I think I'll stick with the freeware version. For the amount they're charging, I'd like a little more than just prompt customer support. Afterall, the majority of my money is going for an enhanced product, with customer support being at a lower priority.

Their price is almost the same as T2G VHHH, FlyTampa CPH which are excellent renditions of the airport and the screenshots on SimMarket don't praise the Cairo scenery either. If they do turn up their quality, I'll reconsider it.
