FSX.cfg doesn't appear to save

I have disabled my joystick in FSX settings (by unclicking it) to allow me to run it through FSUIPC as I suffer from the dreaded Windows 8 disappearing joystick trick.

However, everytime I start FSX the controller box is ticked again. I then have to restart FSX and it is then OK. It appears that the FSX.cfg file is not saving the settings.

Anyone know how to solve this thanks?

Check the Standard.xml file in the User\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\Controls.  It saves it there.

Ive run into that also. Sometime it took a couple times of disabling before it actually disabled, then it stays that way. BTW, P3D was same way. No clue why that is. Just check it before flying, eventually it disables. As Jim says there could be something in the controlls dll that doesnt like resetting.

Also, to add what young Jim posted, make sure the standard .xml is not set to read only.
