Is my computer under performing?

Hi guys. I've always wanted to get your opinions on my FSX settings and I would like to know if my computer is under performing. I have a feeling it should do a bit better than it does but then again I still find myself comparing it to FS9 sometimes and that may be the reason why I am not happy. But i know i shouldn't be so if you guys can help me i would appreciate it. Just need your opinions and/or tips. Please bear with me while i post a lot of specs and tweaks below.

 

THE QUESTION:

 

I would like to have 30 fps and I am happy with that smoothness. Up in the air no problem i get it pretty much all the time. It's on the ground and and at busy payware airport i guess: here are some scenarios: based on NGX and T777 by PMDG

 

1. Default EDDL that day gave me around 20fps on ground. Maybe traffic or weather? Should not be really.

2. FSDT KDFW ground only around average 15-20 fps.

3. AEROSOFT LOWI - average around 20ish on ground. Good weather also

4. VTBS payware also around low 20s.

 

So basically is this normal or not? If not is there something else i can do with it?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit 

C drive is 60GB SSD drive and E drive is FSX (600GB dedicated) This is FSX PC only.

Core i7 3770K overclocked to 4.5GHZ with no step. So constantly running at 4.5GHZ

I am sorry to break it to you, but on the ground of a pay ware airport with traffic, 20-25fps sounds about right. You could back off of some of your settings a little and see what that does. Also try setting the fps limiter to both 30 and unlimited and see which gives the higher fps.

You are running many tweaks and you pushed your cfg through tweaking tool which doesn't consider newer hardware. I tried 2 approaches - Venetubo and Kostas guide and the second one works for me much better with new hardware. Still this weekend I will be trying approach from Nicks guide - so good preparation During sim installation and minimum tweaks and see how it goes.

 

I learned one thing over past few months - one tweak will never work the same on two different configurations and that is why online configurations are not my way to go.

 

Besides - 20 FPS does not sound bad. Question is - Is your game fluent enough for You? If yes, don't mind FPS counter.

 

You have many addons mixed with really high AA settings + 4096 on a 2006 simulation. Id say you're more than fine. Average FPS does not matter that much as minimum because this gives you fluency.

 

With your low FFTF I'm wondering if you don't have texture loading problems.

 

From my side Venetubo cfg is a one big mess and I would save it, put into a folder, start a new cfg file with highmemfix only and than apply some tweaks if needed understanding what some of them do and what some of them doesn't do even though they are advertised to do.

I too used venetubo cfg for some time. Was not happy with the results tbh, stutters all the time. Do try Word Not Allowed's guide. I added just a few entrys to a fresh cfg and my sim has never beed so fluid. ~25 fps in NGX and most Aerosoft sceneries / EGKK UK2000 for example. So indeed I think less tweaks is more in that case. There will always be sceneries that just will not perform at 20+ fps with high end aircraft though, but all in all Word Not Allowed's guide was a gamechanger for me.

Delete your Fsx.cfg, and let FSX generate a new one.. You should suffice with affinitymask, poolsize, texture max load, LOD and Highmemfix tweaks

It's a shame that a system like yours is being tweaked, especially with the automatic venetubo tweaks.  Get rid of the tweaks!  Everyone!  I would use the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide setup (see link in my Signature).  If you are going to tweak anything, set LOD_Radius to no higher than 6.5 and Texture_Max_Load to 2048 (those are the max for your system, nothing higher).  It's all in the AVSIM Config Guide.  It also has some excellent settings for your video card.  Be very careful with Autogen loads.  Like the AVSIM Config Guide recommends, use the guidelines put out by the developers of FTX/Orbx products in their manuals.
