Prepar3D v2 at high res (5760x1080), micro stutters, some other tweaks discovered, fps impact on settings

Interesting post!  Looks like a lot of research.  Unfortunately much of the data is system specific.  I just wanted to comment on your NI settings, specifically the AF (Anisotropic filtering setting).  You have 16x's but just above it you show "Application Controlled".  LM has a 16x setting in P3D.cfg so you should turn this off in the NI.

Best regards,

Thanks.. its been a journey :)  Yeah.. i see that now.. on the AF ill try turning it off..

I have to update that fps difference though..

I found if i toggled ftxg in ftx central from default to au then back.. suddenly my framerate is better (but not better than with 2.0)..

I'm hitting 38.50 fps (and removing affinitymask gained 1 fps).. before with same settings i was at 41-43 fps for the same fsmark07.. so with 2.1 thus far.. about 3-5 fps less than 2.0

This was the same type of difference i saw before, when i went from hybrid mode checked (~32 fps) to unchecked at (41 fps) with 2.0.. i have hybrid unchecked, but the toggle boosted things a bit.. i do find the textures to be a bit blurry compared to before.. perhaps some other NI settings need tweaked.

Again my install.. win 8.1, clean 2.1 full install.. barely anything installed except ftxg+v.. running fsmark07 (KSEA) tests..

Went to control C the app.. it crashed with ntdll.dll error on close  (exception code 0xc0000005)... this has happened in with 2.0 with lots of things installed.

The other is that I noticed under controls.. only the mouse shows from time to time, even if the joystick is still working (ch flight yoke)... I didnt reinstall fsuipc yet, so perhaps this is related to the joystick fix.. but it also limits the ability to set control buttons in the sim if the joysticks go missing (but still work this time with 2.1).

I also noticed on one round of tests, floating buildings above KSEA region on the right hand side.

I found, as mentioned elsewhere.. that turning of ftxg vector lighting saved 1.5-2 fps overall.

With the latest driver from nvidia, so far.. (334.89) i'm seeing a 5 fps drop in performance with p3d v2.1 on my test.

If this holds ill be going back to 332.21 from January.  Though i have to say with 334.89, they fixed the ability to remote desktop while the display resolution is at 5760x1080.. before you couldnt see the taskbar.. now you can.

I reran my tests, both in fully installed v2 and v2.1 folders.

The good ole fsmark07 flight came in like this:

v2.1:  36.40 with massive stuttering after around the 48 second mark (point at which plane is banking with ground in sight).. doesnt stutter the whole time but in spurts, also blurry textures with about a 3 second lag if you hit pause

v2.0:  38.44 with minimal stuttering at the same 48 second or so spot, no real blurry textures.. snappy loading (even with this test flight)

In v2.1 i've swapped out the autogen folder as well (no real help though).

v2.0 for me has spotty stuttering whereas 2.1 has more and slightly lower frames.

I've tried every tweak in the book at this point, nothing has really cured the bigger stutters or the blurries with 2.1 for me.  V2.1 is certainly "useable" under most situations though and looks great though some flickering cars and objects at the airports.

In comparing these two.. everything was held equal.. ie: the NI profile, the cfg files etc.

Update on my current settings for this test:

.. i've tried various vsyncs all with no real difference whether on off or set differently too as well:

Some things I have in my prepar3d.cfg as well

[bUFFERPOOLS]
usepools=0
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400
UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0 (as per image)
TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2048 (as in image)

//tweaked
SHADOW_DRAW_DISTANCE_LOW=12000
SHADOW_DRAW_DISTANCE_MID=12000
SHADOW_DRAW_DISTANCE_HIGH=12000
SHADOW_DRAW_DISTANCE_ULTRA=12000
[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=1364
LOD_RADIUS=6.500000

FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.22

Trying without AM made no different for stutters or blurries in my i7 12 core cpu.. playing with FTF made no difference either.. again the issue with blurries seems to be 2.1 based in my case.
