January 19, 201412 yr Hello everybody, i have i unique problem that i have never encountered that i hope one of you experts may be able to help me with. I have had to do a full reinstall of fsx for the hundred and first time, and when i went to uninstall it i used windows cleanup utility. FSX was still listed in the program add/remove list, and when double clicked it couldnt remove from the list, so i used cc cleaner to delete the listing in the list. When i tried to reinstall fsx from the cd the remove/repair option widow popped up. i was able to fix that issue and final load fsx, but it never should in the program list, as well, i cant install acceleration do to "unknown component keys error" Does anyone have a solution to thiis. Thank you for any help you can lend me. Marc Cain
January 19, 201412 yr I have not reinstalled FSX for over a year now so I'm not sure how to help except to suggest you call MS support. Try a registry cleaner? I would hack away at my registry, searching for anything to do with FSX and/or add-ons. I ain't scairt. You would only have to flush and reinstall Windows at worst. Sometimes this is a blessing even though it takes all weekend when I do that. I think I've lost count how many times I've been in trouble. But I figure as long as my data is backed up it's full steam ahead until I fix what's bothering/stopping me. Bad advice? Some would say. My computer is basically a toy in my mind. I fix what ain't broke all the time. Hee Haw!
January 19, 201412 yr Thank you for any help you can lend me. The best uninstall guide is found at this link - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx. It shows where the hidden directories are located and those have to be removed. The FSX uninstall will not remove those directories. If you had Acceleration installed, the Add/Remove program will list FSX/Acceleration so, when you remove this program, it only removes Acceleration. If you look in the Add/Remove programs, it will show FSX (the Deluxe or Standard version) is still installed. You have to run the uninstaller again. I caught this in my last uninstall of FSX/Acceleration. If you have FSX Gold Edition I think everything will be uninstalled but you want to check in the Add/Remove Program folder to make sure everything FSX is gone. Then run your registry cleaner. I might add that if you do a reinstall per the guide in the link I provided, make sure you run it as Administrator even though you think you have full rights. When you are completed with installing FSX, run it at least once before installing Acceleration. Once Acceleration is installed, run it at least once before you start installing addons. Hope this helps. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource!
