you probabably chose one of the post "intriguing" approach & departure sequencing / procedural airports (kjfk)as your example ... the lendy star with one at F190 at lendy a tad west of lga does not show you how to track & descend for any approach ---- it's all vectored in the real & not simulated in fsx (except with vatsim).

 

so for a good read of one "exteme" to a simple modesto star to 28R at ksfo, compare

the bottom line is few STARS lead to a specific APPROACH ... there is usually a vector of some extent (as kyle mentioned)
