I have a new windows reinstall. I took today off so that I could install FSX and all of my add-ons. 6 hours later I've still no add-ons installed and a super sensitive FSX installation.

After finding no answers (myself) I un-installed everything and started again. Installed FSX the second time and same thing is happening. It can barely last 1 minute after me pressing "fly now."

I thought it might be the uiautomationcore.dll, so I got the Vista one off the web and when I went to replace the current one, to my surprize there was none there in the first place

I have FSX installed in the default location. My desktop is not on the C drive though. But in my previous installations that didn't really make any difference.

A very weird thing also, was that the usual FSX stuff that is installed here: C:\Users\Jesse Casserly\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX is correctly installed, FSX.cfg and all. But when I try go there via computer once I get to C:\Users\Jesse Casserly there are no folders (as I said my desktop is on another drive). The only way I can get to the files is by pasting %AppData%\Microsoft\FSX into the search.

I am completely clueless about this!

Did you go to folder options in Windows Explorer and make sure all system files are unhidden?

Try taking ownership of FSX.  On the Internet there's a freeware program called Take Ownership.  Once installed, you can go to the fsx folder, right click it and click on Take Ownership.  I'm out of ideas though so, unless someone can give you a solution, you probably will have to reinstall.

Here's a possible fix - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/326554-fsx-crashes-when-using-menus/.  If you look in the AVSIM CTD Guide (see pinned topic in this forum), page 11 has a link to version 16386 of the uiautomationcore.dll.  The later version, 18000, is recommended by many.  Not sure which one you tried to employ as there are two Vista versions.

Best regards,

Thank you so much for all your assistance Jim. I really appreciate it ^_^

This problem now warrants a 3rd complete re-install <_<  Last question though, would you recommend I install FSX on another drive other than C? That's the only thing left that I can think of to fix this once and for all. I just want to be sure.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear you have to do that but sometimes starting over is the best.  Here's the guide for uninstalling/reinstalling FSX that I recommend - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx.  The only thing I would recommend that's not included is to run a registry cleaner before you reinstall and, the most important step is to make sure you run fsx at least once before you install SP1.  Then install SP1, run FSX at least once, then install SP2 (or, if you have Acceleration, you can skip SP1 and SP2 and simple install that after you have run FSX at least once.  Good luck and take your time.

So 5 days later, and after a complete reinstall, the problem persists! I haven't been able to do a single flight yet :(

I tried using AppCrash to see what the issue. Maybe somebody could take a look at the report to see what the problem is for me, please.

Thanks!

The problem is with your ATI Driver.  There are several posts here in this forum about the ATI driver issue and some have had serious problems getting it installed correctly.  So you either have to update the driver or go back to an earlier version.
