Flight Constantly Restarting when Network Client Active

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Today I tried running my Opus in a networked config (server on FSX box, client on laptop).  As far as I can see everything connects fine however as soon as I start the Client (on the laptop) FSX starts restarting the flight over and over until I shut client.  I am only running Live Weather option so at a complete loss here.

Running server on the FSX box alone works fine.

Thanks in advance!

Have you worked through the Getting Started Guide for Networked PCs?

Are you wanting to create a Live View system, in which case do you have FSX installed and setup on your client?

If not, and you just want to use it to control the LWE and display weather maps etc., then have you configured the client as a 'No Connection To The Simulator' type.

Sounds to me you have just created a feed back loop.

I should have also mentioned if you want to set up a No Connection To The Simulator type client then you will need to install SimConnect on the client at the very least.

Live View clients require FSX to be installed, they are generally used to offload scenic (2D) views onto a networked client system, hence FSX must be installed in the client along with any scenery files and textures.

Thanks for the quick answer!

You hit the nail on the head - I turned off the connect to fsx option and that took care of the restart loop.  I am however not able to use the map in the LWA.  LWC works fine.  Anything else I need to do?

Thanks again - you guys are great!

There's no real benefit unless you wish to display weather maps and weather report files etc. on the client. Or for those wishing to offload scenic views onto a client system rather than using multiple windows on the main system. The normal OpusFSX features are not designed to run on a client system and there would be no benefit to doing so. So the only benefit is if you wish to make use of a client systems display.

Ilya, you most likely cannot display the weather map because ...

1. You may not have the map enabled on the server.

2. You may not have set up the sharing and permissions on the server.

For point 2 you must read the GS Guide for Networked PCs very carefully, there is a section on setting up the sharing, sharing permissions, and security permissions.

The client needs to copy and read the weather map data file from the servers x:\OpusFSX folder, where 'x' is your installation drive on the server. Make sure you share this using the same letter code. Also make sure you add the Everyone user groups to the permissions.

Make sure you share this using the same letter code.

Stephen,

What do you mean by this?  Are you referring to share name because this does not allow you to put in something like c:\opusfsx.  As of now the folder is being shared as \\my-computer-name\opusfsx with everyone permissions.  LWA is still not working.  Much the of the network guide is Live View-centric.  Like I said I am just using LWE.

Thanks.

The drive name should be a single letter otherwise it won't work. You omitted the drive name on your example above so it should be something like \\mycomputername\c\opusfsx . Also the computer names should not contain any non-alphanumeric characters such as - since windows networking will not work correctly.

Remember to set both sharing and security permissions.

Let me know if you still have a problem.

I just shared the drive.  Did the trick after restarting Opus.

Thanks Cheryl and Stephen.  Impressive support!

:Peace:

Glad it is working now. On some systems sharing the folder doesn't appear to be enough and you have to share the whole drive (don't ask me why!).
