Nav Lights Problem

Featured Replies

In the v3.2.2 DX10 Fixer there was a Bonus folder included which among other things included a fix for lights. I applied the light fix and followed the instructions to modify the lights section of the default 172 aircraft.cfg file. The one problem I see is that the Nav lights have a small dark "patch" over them when viewed from outside the a/c. This is a minor issue, but just wondering if I did something wrong in applying the fix.

Thx,

Al

Got a pic, Al - and are you now using the Fixer or still using the patch?

PJ,

I am not using the commercial Fixer, just the v3.2.2 patch and the bonus light fix it contained.

Here's a picture of the problem.

Paul,

In looking at the same nav light in the daytime, it looks like the 6 sided dark patch which seems to be covering the light in the night shot is actually the black base of the light.  Don't know it that helps at all.

something is wrong.

If I recall correctly the lights fix just added a ballast light to each circuit. It didnt change fx_navgre.fx

Can you post the contents of your modified aircraft.cfg?

Here is the aircraft.cfg.

Thx,

Al

I installed the SteveFX-DX10 Scenery Fixer, ver 1.4 today. It did not cure the Nav light problem shown above. I installed the fixer over the v3.2.2 DX10 patch that I had previously installed and everything seemed to go smoothly. None of the options in the DX10 Fixer Controller where grayed out. During the install I just accepted all the "default" settings in the Fixer since at this point I am not knowledgeable enough to make intelligent choices.

Does anyone else with the DX10 Fixer installed see the same Nav light problem? I trying to figure out if it is just an issue with my setup somehow.

Thx,

Al

Edit: I went back in to the C172 aircraft.cfg file and removed the changes I had made to the LIGHTS section in accordance with instructions in the lights bonus material in the V3.2.2. patch. The appearance of the Nav light did not change, however.

sorry I did check the aircraft.cfg - is this problem on the red nav light as well or just the green?

Hi Steve,

Yes, same thing happens with the red light.   The magnitude of the effect seems to vary with the type of a/c, as you can see from the attached Mooney pic, and how close you are to the a/c.  I see the same thing on the Maule strobe light when it fires. If this is an issue which is just a part of the overall FSX/DX10 problem and not just my setup of your DX10Fixer program (which is great, thx for the GUI interface !),  I don't think it is worth much of your valuable time. I'm sure there are bigger DX10 problems for you to deal with.

BTW, before installing the Fixer, I returned the C172 aircraft.cfg to its original state so the attached C172 pic is with an unmodified aircraft.cfg, and I never modified the Mooney or Maule a/c.cfg files.

Thanks,

Al

I suddenly realized I had never looked at the Nav lights under DX9. So I switched back using the DX10 Controller option and saw the exact same problem in DX9! I did this both with the DX10 Compatible Lights option on and off -- made no difference. So it seems that this "nav light problem" is either inherent to FSX, or just to my setup somehow, or perhaps whatever the DX10 Compatible Lights option does is not completely reversible when switching back to DX9.

Why I didn't think of checking the Nav lights under DX9 sooner escapes me -- sorry.

It would be helpful if someone could take an external "night" look at the C172 Nav lights on their system to check if they see a similar effect.  It is most obvious with a close up look.

Thx,

Al
